Historical Background
The evolution of online airline reservation systems dates back to
1946 with American Airlines' automation of booking systems. The
industry has seen extensive advancements with the introduction of
systems like Apollo Reservation by United Airlines and the integration
of Big Data and AI technologies to enhance efficiency and customer
experience.
Statement of the Problem
The primary challenge addressed in this study is the need for an
effective online airline booking system that provides customers with a
seamless experience, facilitates online ticket purchasing, and allows
users to compare prices and manage reservations easily.
Objectives
Design an effective online airline booking system using HTML, CSS,
PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL.
Integrate advanced features such as customer support for queries
and complaints.
Conceptual Framework
The framework outlines the design and functionality of the airline
booking system, emphasizing user interface design, back-end
database management, and integration of payment gateways. It
focuses on enhancing customer service and user engagement.
Theoretical Framework
The study draws on theories surrounding user experience design,
system usability, and effective online transaction processing,
including how these concepts apply to the airline industry’s specific
needs for timely information and customer interaction.
Thematic Areas of Literature
Historical development of airline reservation systems.
Technological advancements (Big Data, AI).
User experience in online booking.
Comparison of existing reservation systems and their functionalities.
Methods of Data Collection
Data was collected through a secondary methodological approach,
utilizing literature reviews, existing airline system studies, customer
feedback, and observational research.
Old Model Propounded
Traditional airline booking systems which relied heavily on manual
processes and less user-friendly interfaces prior to the advent of e-
commerce.
New Model Propounded
A web-based, user-friendly airline booking system that enhances
customer interaction, incorporates advanced features, and allows
real-time reservations and management.
Theoretical, Literature, Methods and
Model Gaps
Identified gaps include the need for more robust customer support
mechanisms in existing systems, better integration of data analytics
for customer insights, and addressing technological accessibility for
users unfamiliar with online platforms.
Significance/Benefits
Provides a comprehensive solution for airline booking that improves
user experience, increases efficiency, and allows airlines to cater
better to customer needs.
It offers a competitive edge in the e-tourism sector.
Hypothesis Used
An assumption was made that implementing modern web
technologies and customer service features would significantly
improve user experience and overall satisfaction compared to
traditional booking systems.
Research Design
A qualitative and quantitative mixed-methods approach was utilized,
involving both design and user testing phases to evaluate system
functionality and user satisfaction.
Sample Design
The study focused on a diverse group of users, including frequent
travelers, occasional flyers, and industry experts, to gather
comprehensive feedback on system usability.
Recommendations/Conclusions
It is recommended for airlines to adopt advanced technologies to
enhance their online booking systems, streamline customer
interactions, and continually adapt to the evolving needs and
preferences of travelers to maintain competitiveness in the market.
