WEB are those instances when a
person illegally accesses your computer
for malicious reasons.
● A cybercriminal is a person who engages
in cybercrimes using his technological
expertise.
● Let’s explore different cybercrimes along
with some recommended precautions
you take to protect yourself.
SPYWARE
● Spyware is a software program that gets
installed on your computer without your
knowledge or consent. It gets downloaded
from websites, email messages , instant
messages or direct file-sharing connections. It
can also enter in you computer while
downloading a software. This program
secretly gathers data from your computer,
steals your passwords, displays unwanted
advertisements, and takes control of your web
PRECAUTIONS
● Use an Internet security program to protect
computer from spyware and other security risks.
● Install a personal firewall (software that protects
network resources from outside intrusions).
● Do not accept or open any doubtful error dialogs
from within the browser.
● Do not accept free deals because spyware may
come as a part of “free deal” offer.
● Always read the End User Licence Agreement (EULA)
carefully at the installation time and cancel other
programs are being installed as part of the desired
program.
ADWARE
●Adware, or "advertising-supported
software", is a type of malware that
displays unwanted advertisements
on a computer or device. Adware
can be activated unknowingly when
users install legitimate applications
that are bundled with adware.
PRECAUTIONS
● Use antivirus software. The easiest way
to block adware is to use antivirus
software that can detect malware before
it infects the rest of your device.
● Perform updates.
● Only download apps from known app
stores.
● Don't click on pop-up ads.
● Beware of phishing.
SPAM
●Spam is any kind of unwanted,
unsolicited digital communication
that gets sent out in bulk. Often
spam is sent via email, but it can
also be distributed via text
messages, phone calls, or social
media.
PRECAUTIONS
● Be careful about releasing your email
address.
● Check privacy policies.
● Be aware of options selected by default.
● Use filter spam tagging.
● Report messages as spam.
● Don't follow links in spam messages.
● Disable the automatic downloading of
graphics in HTML mail.
VIRUS
●A computer virus is a type of
malicious software, or malware, that
spreads between computers and
causes damage to data and
software. Computer viruses aim to
disrupt systems, cause major
operational issues, and result in data
loss and leakage.
PRECAUTIONS
● Install antivirus or anti-malware
software.
● Keep your antivirus software up to date.
● Run antivirus scans regularly.
● Keep your operating system up to date.
● Protect your network.
● Think before you click.
● Keep your personal information secure.
● Don't use unsecured Wi-Fi.
PHISHING
● Computer phishing, also known as social
engineering, is a type of cybercrime that
involves sending fraudulent communications
that appear to come from a legitimate source.
The goal of phishing is to trick a victim into
opening a communication and sharing
sensitive data, such as login credentials,
credit card numbers, or account numbers.
Attackers may also use phishing to install
malware on a victim's device.
PRECAUTIONS
● Know what a phishing scam looks like.
● Get free anti-phishing add-ons.
● Conduct security awareness training.
● Use strong passwords & enable two-
factor authentication.
● Don't ignore update messages.
● Exercise caution when opening emails or
clicking on links.
KEYLOGGER
●A keylogger, also known as a
keystroke logger or keyboard
capturing, is a type of surveillance
technology that records keystrokes
on a device, such as a computer or
smartphone. Keyloggers can be
hardware-based or software-based.
PRECAUTIONS
● Update Your System.
● Install a Password Manager.
● Set Up a Firewall.
● Get Antivirus Software.
● Routinely Change Your Passwords.
● Implement Multifactor Authentication.
● Always Be Cautious.
CYBERBULLYING
● Cyberbullying is using the internet or
mobile technology to harass, intimidate,
or cause harm to another. Nearly all
states have bullying laws in place to
address traditional bullying. A growing
number have online bullying or
electronic harassment provisions.
PRECAUTIONS
● Manage privacy settings online.
● Protect your passwords.
● Keep clear records.
● Don't respond or retaliate.
● Block cyberbullies via user settings.
● Report cyberbullying to site admins.
● Stay safe online.
● Ask when you think a friend might need help.
HACKING
●Hacking (also called cyber
hacking) is the use of
unconventional or illicit means to
gain unauthorized access to a
digital device, computer system
or computer network.
PRECAUTIONS
● Use strong and unique passwords.
● Store your passwords in a password
manager.
● Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)
● Use an authenticator app for 2FA.
● Make sure you have a secure backup
email and phone number.
● Learn to spot the warning signs of a
phishing scam.
SOCIAL ENGINEERING
●Social engineering attacks
manipulate people into sharing
information that they shouldn't
share, downloading software that
they shouldn't download, visiting
websites they shouldn't visit,
sending money to criminals or
making other mistakes that

● Multi-Factor Authentication.
● Continuously Monitor Critical System.
● Utilize Next-Gen cloud-based WAF.
● Verify Email Sender's Identity.
● Identify your critical assets which attract
criminals.
● Check for SSL Certificate.
● Penetration Testing.
● Check and Update your Security Patches.
DIGITAL FOOTPRINT
●A digital footprint is the trail of
data a person leaves behind
when using the internet. It can
include websites visited, emails
sent, information submitted
online, and other interactions
recorded by digital devices.
PRECAUTIONS
● Delete old email accounts.
● Limit social media accounts.
● Skip the survey.
● Create a spam email address.
● Remove yourself from people search
sites.
● Set up stealth mode when you search.
● Other ideas to reduce digital footprint.
