amorphous solids
Structures
Solids are those types of matter whose molecules are
closely held together by ionic and strong covalent
Solids: bonds and their kinetic energies are much lower than
those of solids and liquids.
Crystalline solids are those in which atoms , ions ,
or molecules that make up the solid exist in a
regular , well defined arrangement .
They are firm , hold a definite and fixed shape ,
are rigid and incompressible.
Crystallin
e Solids: They generally have geometric shapes and flat
faces.
Examples: Diamonds , metals , sodium chloride .
Amorphous solids are noncrystalline solids in
which the atoms and molecules are not organized
in a definite lattice pattern.
They produce fragments with irregular , often
curved surfaces.
Amorpho
us Solids: They have poorly defined pattern when exposed
to X-rays because their components are not
arranged in a regular array.
Particles are arranged randomly.
