WHO IS A CONSUMER ?
• Any individual who buys a product or
service for his personal use is called
a Consumer.
• Consumers are the decision makers
who decide which they want to buy.
• Consumers participate in the market
place by purchasing final goods and
services as per their requirements.

DUTIES OF A CONSUMER
• Buying quality products of reasonable price.
• To check the weights and measures before making purchases.
• Reading the label carefully.
• To procure the bill, cash received warranty, etc.
• Shopping carefully and wisely.
• Understanding the terms of the sale.
• Reading and Following instructions.
• Consumer Movements are formed to
protect the consumers.
• In India consumer movements started when
Gandhi and the Indian Independence
WHAT IS A movement joined forces to protest against
imposition of taxes on basic consumer
CONSUMER products for example Salt.
MOVEMENT? • Gandhi and other leaders pioneered
protests such as the Salt March that
encouraged many Indians to process their
own homemade products.
• This was generally a social force towards
consumer protection.

CONSUMER PROTECTION
ACT
POINTS :
• The Consumer Protection Act, implemented in 1986, gives easy and
fast compensation to consumer grievances.
• It safeguards and encourages consumers to speak against
insufficiency and flaws in goods and services.
• If traders and manufactures practice any illegal trade, this act
protects their rights as a consumer.

COPRA ACT
• Enacted to provide for the better protection of
the interest of consumer.
• Act applies to whole of India expect Jammu
and Kashmir.
• The act was amended in 2002 and the
amendments came into force world economic
forum 15th March 2003.

ISI MARK
• The ISI Mark is a standards compliance mark for industrial products in
India since 1955.
• The mark certifies that a product confirms to the Indian Standards (IS)
Developed by the Bureau of Indian Standards, the National Standards body
of India.
• The ISI Mark is by far most recognized certification mark in Indian
Subcontinent.
• The ISI Mark is mandatory for certain products to be sold in India such as many
of the electric appliances like switches, electric motor, LPG cylinder, etc.
