Activity #1

- Write one well-defined set and another set that is not


well-defined.

- The class will be divided into 10 groups. Student 1 - 5


for the first group, 6-10 for the second group, so on and
so forth.

- You will write your own sets in the table. Each sets
must be distinct to the other sets in your group.

- Student 1, 6, 11, 16, 21, 26, 31, 36 will write on the


first student. 2, 7, 12, 17, 22, 27, 32, 37 will write on
the second student, then so on and so forth,

- This activity is only good for 5mins.

- After 5 mins, the first student per group will turn in the
google docs.
Things to remember:
- Capital letters are used to denote a set.

- Elements are written in braces { } and


commas are used to separate them
Things to remember:
- The symbol is read as “is an element of”or
“is a member of”
- In listing the elements of the set, is listed once
and the order of the elements does not matter.
1. Roster Notation (Listing
Method)
- Listing each element of the set
- Ex:
A = {1 , 2 , 3, 4}
B = {red, yellow, blue, white}
2. Verbal Description Method
- Describing a set in words.
- Ex:
Set A is the set of counting numbers up to 4.
Set B is the set of colors in the Philippine Flag.
3. Set Builder Notation
- Indicating the properties that its members
must satisfy
- Ex:
A = {x | x is a counting number up to 4}
B = {x | x is a color in the Philippine Flag}
