Methods of Data
Collection, Sampling
Techniques and
Methods in
Presenting Data
Learning Objectives
• Define and differentiate key sampling
terminology
• Understand the principles of probability and
non-probability sampling
• Identify and describe different probability
sampling techniques
• Identify and describe various data collection
methods
Systematic sampling is a probability sampling method where
sample members are selected at a fixed, periodic interval from a
larger population, starting with a random starting point. This
method is simpler than simple random sampling and ensures a
representative sample.
Textual Method
Text is the main method of conveying information as it is used to explain
results and trends, and provide contextual information.
For example, there are 50 students in a
class, among them, 30 are boys and 20 are
girls. This is the data that can be understood
with the help of a simple text and no table
or pie diagram is required for the same.
• A bar graph is the graphical representation of categorical
data using rectangular bars where the length of each bar is
proportional to the value they represent. A histogram is
the graphical representation of data where data is grouped
into continuous number ranges and each range
corresponds to a vertical bar.
Assessment
Mock Interviews
Have students pair up and practice conducting and
being interviewed. Develop your own questions based
in your field of interest.
Self-Reflection Report
After participating in the mock interview (both as
interviewer and interviewee), each student writes a
reflective report addressing:
• Strengths and Weaknesses (as Interviewer)
• Insights Gained (as Interviewee)
• Lessons Learned
