Phases
• A phrase is a group of words that does not have a subject and a
predicate
For example:-
1. Riya wore a string of exquisite pearls around her neck.
2. They completed the work with great skill.
3. He loved to collect sea-shells.
Type of phrases
• Adjective phrase
• Noun phrase
• Adverb phrase
• Prepositional phrase
Adjective phrase
Adjective phrase act like adjective in a sentence.
Noun phrase
Adverb phrase
Prepositional phrase
Clauses
• A clause has a subject and a predicateand finite verb.
If a clause can stand on
It’s own, then it is a
Sentence.
Dependent clause
• A sentence depend on the principal or main clause to complete it as
a sentence is called dependent clause .
• Dependent clause are also called subordinate clause.
Principal clause or main clause
• If a sentence can stand on its own as a sentence it is therefore they
are called principal or main clause.
Co-ordinate clause

• There are three types of clause.


• Adjective clause
• Noun clause
• Adverb clause
Adjective clause

• Adjective clause are subordinate clause that function as adjective in a


sentence.
• Adjective clause are also called relative clause.
Noun clause
• Noun clause are subordinate clause that function as noun in a
sentence.
Adverb clause
• Adverb clause are subordinate clause that function as adverb in a
sentence.
• Time-(when)
• Reason-(why)
• Mamer-(how)
• Contrast-(though)
• Condition-(if)
