Basic Tools and Equipment in

Refrigeration and Air-

conditioning
A simple guide to essential tools used
in RAC
Basic Tools (Part 1)
• 2. Refrigeration manifold gauge set –
Measures pressure in refrigerant systems.
• 3. Vacuum pump – Removes air and moisture
from the system before charging refrigerant.
• 4. Refrigerant recovery machine – Collects
refrigerant safely from the system.
• 5. Refrigerant cylinder – Stores refrigerant gas
used for charging the system.
• 6. Leak detector – Finds leaks in refrigerant
lines.
Basic Tools (Part 2)
• 7. Thermometer – Measures temperature in
different parts of the system.
• 8. Clamp meter – Measures electric current
and voltage in motors and compressors.
• 9. Multimeter – Tests voltage, resistance, and
continuity in electrical circuits.
• 10. Tube cutter – Cuts copper tubing used in
RAC systems.
• 11. Flaring tool – Expands the end of copper
tubing to make leak-proof joints.
Basic Tools (Part 3)
• 12. Swaging tool – Enlarges tubing to fit
another tube inside for joining.
• 13. Tube bender – Bends copper pipes without
flattening them.
• 14. Welding or brazing kit – Joins copper pipes
using heat and filler metals.
• 15. Nitrogen cylinder with regulator – Used for
pressure testing and purging the system.
• 16. Pipe wrench – Grips and turns pipes
tightly.
Basic Tools (Part 4)
• 17. Adjustable spanner – Loosens or tightens
nuts and bolts of various sizes.
• 18. Screwdrivers – Used for tightening or
loosening screws.
• 19. Allen keys (Hex keys) – Used for screws
with hexagonal sockets.
• 20. Hammer – Used for tapping or fixing
components.
• 21. Safety gear – Includes gloves, goggles, and
masks for personal protection.
