Part II: High Throughput (HT)
Case 1: High-throughput 802.11n with a 20MHz bandwidth
Case 2: High-throughput 802.11n with a 40MHz
bandwidth
• Change bandwidth to 40MHz, set Frames Aggregated to 1.
• Vary antenna count and distance between Access Point & Wireless Node (Table 6).
• Run simulation for 10s, record MCS (Modulation and Coding Scheme) &
Throughput (Mbps).
• Change Frames Aggregated to 64, vary antenna count & distance (same Table 6
settings).
• Run simulation again for 10s, record MCS & Throughput.

Throughput vs PHY Rate
•Throughput initially
increases with PHY rate
because higher PHY rates
transmit more data per
unit time.
•At higher PHY rates,
throughput flattens due to
inefficiencies.
•The inefficiencies include:
•Protocol overhead
•Interframe spacing
•Acknowledgments
•These inefficiencies do

Aggregation count set to 1
Efficiency vs
PHY Rate
1. Efficiency is
defined as
Throughput/PHY
rate.
2. Efficiency
decreases at
higher PHY rates
when no packet
aggregation is
used.
3. This is because
non-scalable
overhead
consumes a larger

available
bandwidth.
