Chapter 1 - Variations
1.1 Direct Variation
1.1 Short Important notes on direct variation
• Direct variation
- the relation between two variables
- When variable y increases, variable x also increases vice versa
* Variable y directly varies as the variable x
* Value of y/x is a constant
* Constant - fixed or unchanged value
*Constant of proportionality is k.
1.2 Inverse Variation
1.3 Combined Variation
1.3 Short Important notes on combined variation
* y varies directly as w
and the cube of x, and
inversely as the cube
root of z
The equation Y changes directly with X
and inversely with Z
• Examples of direct and joint variation relationships, y α xz - y changes directly
with x and z
• A joint variation - a variable changes directly and/or inversely with other variables
