HAND TOOLS
Hand tools are manually
operated tools that don’t
require electricity or motors,
relying on the user’s hands for
power.
Tube Cutter
A hand tool specifically designed to cut tubes, particularly
those made of copper or other soft metals, to a precise
length. It offers a faster and cleaner cut compared to using
a hacksaw.
Flaring Tool
Widens the end of a tube or pipe, creating a flared, bell-like
opening, which is then used to connect to other parts like
fittings or valves. This tool helps ensure a secure and leak-
free connection, particularly in applications like plumbing,
heating and cooling, and automotive work.
Copper Tube Bender
A tool used to precisely bend copper tubing used in RAC
systems and other applications. It allows for shaping the tubing
into the necessary angles and curves for installation and
functionality, without kinking or damaging the material.
Hacksaw
In RAC systems, a hacksaw is used primarily for cutting metal
or plastic pipes when installation, repair, or replacement is
needed. Specifically, it's used to cut out sections of piping to
install valves, such as ball valves or check valves, or to
remove damaged sections for repair.
SCREWDRIVERS
Flathead screwdriver
Also known as a slotted screwdriver, is a basic hand tool with a flat,
wedge-shaped tip used for tightening or loosening screws with a
straight slot. In RAC systems, it's a common tool for general assembly
and maintenance, such as securing panels or adjusting components.
Philip's screwdriver
A tool with a cross-shaped driving end that's designed to fit
screws with a corresponding cross-shaped recess. These are
essential tools in RAC systems for maintenance and repair tasks,
including tightening screws and bolts on compressors,
condensers, evaporators, and adjusting equipment.
Nut drivers
Nut drivers in refrigeration systems are hand tools used to tighten
or loosen nuts and bolts, primarily for tasks like assembling and
disassembling components or performing maintenance on
equipment. They are especially useful in tight spaces where a
wrench might not fit or where more precise control is needed.
PLIERS
Long-nose pliers
Long-nose pliers, also known as needle-nose pliers, are
valuable tools in RAC systems for gripping, bending, and
cutting wires and small objects in tight spaces. Their long, thin
jaws allow for precise work and reach into areas where other
tools might not fit.
Slip joint

Slip joint pliers are primarily used for gripping, turning, and
holding various objects in RAC systems, particularly when
working with pipes, fittings, and nuts/bolts. Their adjustable
pivot allows for gripping objects of different sizes.
Electrical pliers
Electrical pliers, particularly insulated needle-nose and
lineman's pliers, are essential tools in refrigeration systems
for a variety of tasks, including electrical work, connecting
components, and working with wires. They are used for
gripping, bending, shaping, cutting, and stripping insulation
from wires safely and precisely.
WRENCHES
Pipe Wrench
In RAC systems, a pipe wrench is a tool used to tighten and
loosen connections on refrigerant lines and other cylindrical
components. It's a heavy-duty tool with serrated jaws designed to
grip and rotate pipes and fittings.
Allen wrench
In RAC systems, an Allen wrench, also known as a hex key, is
used to tighten or loosen screws and bolts with hexagonal
sockets. These fasteners are often found in service valves
and other components requiring precise adjustment during
installation, maintenance, or repair.
Box wrench
A box wrench, particularly a ratcheting version, is a valuable tool
in RAC systems for tightening and loosening nuts and bolts,
especially in tight spaces. Its ability to ratchet (rotate without
disconnecting) makes it efficient for repetitive tasks like
tightening or loosening compressor components or refrigerant
lines.
Open-end wrench
Open-end wrenches in RAC systems are primarily used to
tighten or loosen nuts and bolts, particularly on service valves
and other components where limited access is available. They
are also useful for working with refrigerant lines and various
parts of the system.
Adjustable
wrench
A versatile hand tool used for tightening or loosening
nuts and bolts. It's particularly useful in RAC systems
work because its adjustable jaw allows it to
accommodate a range of sizes.
Flat File
Flat hardened steel with cutting ridges. Used for filing a
newly cut copper tube ends to square it. Or to remove
burrs from steel brackets. File surface joints so that they
can fit squarely.
Round File
A round file, also known as a rat-tail file, is primarily used for
enlarging and smoothing the interior of round holes. Its round
shape allows it to fit into curved spaces, making it ideal for
working on holes, grooves, and other circular areas.
Gauge Manifold
A gauge manifold in a RAC systems is used to measure
refrigerant pressure, diagnose leaks, add refrigerant, and
evacuate systems. It's a crucial tool for technicians to assess
system performance and perform various service
procedures.
Measuring Tape
A measuring tape is a fundamental tool in refrigeration and air
conditioning (HVAC) systems for accurate measurements of
distances, lengths, and dimensions. It helps technicians during
installation, maintenance, and repair work, ensuring proper
airflow, refrigerant line lengths, and component placement.
