Understanding Forces: Push, Pull, and Resistance

The document explains various forces, including push and pull, buoyancy, friction, and resistance. Buoyancy allows objects to float in water, while friction occurs between solid objects in contact, with rough surfaces causing more friction. Resistance, a type of friction in water and air, can be influenced by an object's surface area, and streamlined designs in airplanes and ships help reduce resistance.

Forces

Push and Pull

 A force is a push or pull upon an object resulting from the object's interaction
with another object. Whenever there is an interaction between two objects, there
is a force upon each of the objects.
Buoyancy
 Buoyancy is an upward pressure in the water, which enables the
objects to float/swim in water.
Friction
 Friction is a force which occurs when two solid objects come in contact with
each other.
 Rough and bumpy surfaces cause more friction. Smooth and Slippery
surfaces have less friction.
Resistance
 Resistance is a kind of friction that works in water and air. It slows down the
speed of the objects floating/ flying in the water/air.
 Resistance can be increased by increasing and decreasing the
surface area of the object.
 The more surface area an object has, the more resistance it will
face.
 Air planes and ships are designed to be streamlined to reduce the
resistance.
