Optimize Profit from Wood and Appliances

The document discusses two linear programming problems involving resource allocation for maximizing profit from leftover wood and purchasing fans and sewing machines. It provides constraints and profit calculations for each scenario, ultimately leading to optimal solutions for both cases. Additionally, it outlines a third problem related to nutrient requirements for pigs, focusing on minimizing costs while meeting nutritional needs.

• Upon completing the construction of his

house, Mr. N discovers that 100 sq. feet of

plywood scrap and 80 sq. feet of cases of
white pine scrap are in usable form for the
construction of tables and book case. It takes
16 sq. feet of plywood and 8sq. feet of white
pine to make a table;12 sq. feet of plywood
and 16 sq. feet of white pine are required to
construct a book case.
By selling the finished products to a local store
he can realize a profit of Rs 25 on each table
and Rs. 20 on each book case. How may he
most profitably use the left over wood.

• A dealer wishes to purchase a number of fans
and sewing machines. He has only Rs.5760 to
invest and has space for 20 items. A fan costs
him Rs. 360 and a sewing machine Rs.240. his
expectation is that he sell a fan at profit of Rs.
22 and a sewing machine at a profit of Rs.18.
Assuming that he can sell all the items that he
can by, how should he invest his money in
order to maximize his profit.

A farmer is engaged in breeding pigs. Pigs are
fed on various products grown on the farm.
Because of the need to ensure nutrient
constituents, it is necessary to buy additional
one or two products, which we shall call A and
B. The nutrient constituents in each of the
product are given below.

nutrient not less than the minimum required at the lowest possible cost .
