Because It Will Reject the Messiah
God will reject the shepherds of Israel for
misleading and mistreating the people.
Two staffs, Beauty and Bonds, symbolized the
blessings and unity of Israel and Judah, but both
would be broken.

Chapter 11 - The Destruction of the Nation
Because It Will Reject the Messiah
God will reject the shepherds of Israel for
misleading and mistreating the people.
Two staffs, Beauty and Bonds, symbolized the
blessings and unity of Israel and Judah, but both
would be broken.
The price paid for the shepherd symbolizes the
people’s rejection of the Messiah and the
destruction of the nation.

then the nations come to Jerusalem to keep the
feast of Tabernacles.

Coming?
(1) The “day” (verse 4) refers to Jesus’ first coming, not
His second coming
(2) The context is clearly figurative, not literal.
(3) Christ is now reigning over His kingdom and will
continue to reign until His second coming (Colossians
1:13; Revelation 1:9; 1 Corinthians 15:22-26; Acts 2:30-
34). His kingdom is spiritual, not earthly (John 18:36).
(4) The Messiah would be a King and Priest at the same
time (6:12,13; compare Psalms 110:1-4).
(5) At Jesus’ second coming earth will burn up (2 Peter
3:3-13).
(6) No Scripture anywhere teaches that Jesus will ever
again literally set foot on earth (1 Thessalonians 4:17).

13:7 - Jesus arrested, tried, slain, and His followers
scattered.
13:8,9 – Most people fall away; remnant tested by

and restored the nation, priesthood, and civil
leadership.

* God predicted the Messiah would be both king and

* Obedience to God is of more value than special fast
days.
* Zion’s king would come riding on a donkey.
