Introduction to HRM
Human: People, have/possess some talents,
abilities, knowledge, creativity etc.

Resource: it means an asset or wealth which


can be used for help to achieve objectives as
and when required e.g. a mobile, to
communicate, a pen to write.
Human Resource: The total knowledge,
skills, creative abilities and talents of people to
get some objectives when required.

Management: It is a process of achieving


objectives efficiently and effectively.
• Or in simple words, what managers do, is
management.
Human Resource Management:
Simply means managing human resource in
such a way that organizations achieve their
objectives effectively and efficiently.
Major activities Under Human Resource Management.
Human Resource Planning:

HR Planning helps the organization to decide on


training & development of the present staff, their
salary, and other benefits which enable the staff
to plan for their careers (whether to leave this
job or stay).

•Job analysis, job description and job


specifications are the part of HR Planning.
Acquisition of Human Resource:

This activity is to be done very carefully because every thing


depends on this such as Quality of the product and prestige of
the organization.
HR Management has to acquire people with multidimensional
skills (like knowledge, wisdom, communication power etc.)and
experiences. Young and talented people should be preferred at
every level of the organization. Management must go for global
recruitment(hiring employees from other countries) to get better
talent
Performance Evaluation:

HR Management has to measure/evaluate the Performance of the employee. .


Performance of the employee can be measured by seeing goals given to him
and results provided by him. If he achieve his goals in the given time and
manner, it means his performance is good and if not, it means his performance
is bad. To get excellent performance from the employee, the management
should

No confusion in achieving the goals assigned to employee,
Fear should be removed
Ease of communication
Provide environment of compensation and benefits.
Motivation:

Next activity of HR Management is motivating the


employees to work hard to achieve the organization’s
objectives. In order to achieve the objectives efficiently
motivation has to be given to the employees. Motivation
can be given in the form of monetary and non-monetary
rewards such as increase in salary, giving a cash bonus,
giving a Motor Car, a well furnished house, promotion
in job etc.
Training & Development:

• In order to improve the performance of the


individual employees and groups, training and
development activities are under taken.
Training & development is considered as a
process to enhance career development of the
employees at every level of the organization.
Compensation and Benefits:

• Compensation and Benefits is an activity that


determines salary and wages, other rewards
and benefits (medical facility, transportation,
food, credit cards) to be paid to the staff of the
organization. The suitable rewards and
benefits increase the morale of the employees
and ultimately improvements in performance.
Health and Safety Provisions:

• Safety and Health of the human resources must be


given top importance. The employees must be
protected from the physical danger by providing for
their safety at the work place and outside the work
place and by establishing health care center for them.
The activity also includes the protection of the
surrounding community from pollution and other
toxic materials emitted from the factories.
Groups working in an organization

Humans are the most important


resources of any organization in order
to progress towards the organizational
goals.
Two main groups or parties work inside
an organization.
• Management or employers
• Workers or employees
Employer
The definition of employer differs from
economy to economy. Employer is
normally defined in the industrial relations
laws of the country.
Generally employer is a person or group of
persons that offer employment to
individual in an organization OR those who
are involved in management process.
Owners, directors, managers and
supervisors/controllers are the common
examples of employers.
Employee
Employee is a person or group of persons
who are directly involved in the operation
of a business. They implement the
decisions made by the management. They
don’t have any direct role in the
management process. Support staff,
clerical staff and factory workers are the
common examples of employees.
HRM field
Personnel or HRM field includes activities or interactions of
the two groups (employer and employee) in order to maintain
a balance. For example.

 Conflict resolution
 Increments in salaries
 Training programs
 Transfers and promotions
 Hiring of new staff
 Benefits and facilities
Defining HRM

Personnel or Human Resource Management is


the organizational function of recruitment &
selection, training & development, motivation
and retention of effective human resources.

HRM is a subset of management. It has five main


goals:

Workforce Diversity

The workforce (human resources) belong to


a diverse group of values and lifestyle.

As per the modern research the workforce do not


set aside their cultural values and lifestyle

It’s all about employee empowerment through
