❖ The above factors all combine to create - ‘Poverty Trap’-
World Bank calls
❖ Thus, the World bank recommends - countries to focus on
six areas of policy to improve chances of development.
➢ Investment in education and health
➢ Increasing productivity of small farms
➢ Improving infrastructure (Ex. Roads)
➢ Developing an industrial policy to promote
manufacturing
➢ Promoting democracy and human rights
➢ Ensuring environmental protection

❖ The caste system & Religion
❖ Corruption at all levels in various forms including
judiciary and legislature(political)
❖ Poor infrastructure
❖ Poor quality of education, unemployment
❖ Low spread for health care and good health care is
accessible to only rich and well to do people
❖ Agriculture sector must be thoroughly overhauled to
increase productivity -arrest the flow of agriculture
labour from rural to urban cities

❖ Industrial enterprises must be encouraged by making
bank credit to small and medium sector with liberal
credit norms but effective disciplined financial controls
❖ Encouraging experts through export of services and
goods
❖ Bringing women folk into working organised and
suitable regulated platforms.
