PROSTATITIS

INTRODUCTION
Prostatitis is the inflammation and
swelling of the prostate gland
situated below the bladder in men.
Prostatitis often causes painful or
difficult urination.
TYPES
1. Acute bacterial prostatitis
2. Chronic bacterial prostatitis
3. Non bacterial prostatitis
4. Chronic prostatitis

PROSTATITIS
•Least common form and usually
associated with STD such as gonorrhea
and HIV.
•Symptoms include fever, general pain.
2. CHRONIC
BACTERIAL
PROSTATITIS
• Uncommon recurrent infection with
inflammation of the urinary tract.
• Symptoms include discomfort of the
genital area and low back pain.
3. NON BACTERIAL
PROSTATITIS
The cause is unknown but the symptoms
are similar.
4. CHRONIC PROSTATITIS
Also known as chronic pelvic pain syndrome
where symptoms occurs but there is no
inflammation.
CAUSES
•Urinary catheter
•Abnormal urinary tract
•Recent bladder infection
•Excessive alcohol intake
•Stress/depression
CLINICAL MANIFESTATION
• Hematuria
• Blood in semen
• Decreased urinary stream
• Discomfort on passing urine
• Incontinence
• Low grade fever
• Pain or burning while urination
• Low back pain
• Pain in pelvic area

MANAGEMENT
I. Administer antibiotic (erythromycin).
II. Pain medications (ibuprofen).
