and Lesson Plan


Teaching is a planned activity in which the teacher aims at
achieving specified instructional objectives, and this include
assessment of pupils needs, operationalizing aims into goals
and objectives, preparing scheme of work, preparing the
lesson plan and lesson notes as well as planning classroom
activities
Preparing Mathematics scheme of work
• Scheme of work is the long term plan of a series of lessons that a
teacher hopes to cover over a specified period of time
• Scheme of work contains the following elements
 Time of the year (month)
 Period of the school term (week)
 Topic and sub topic
 Number of periods to be spent on each topic
 Objectives
 Teachers activities
 Learners activities
 Teaching/learning materials
 Reference books
Preparing lesson plan
• Lesson plan is a short term plan that is what the teacher
hopes to cover during the single teaching session
• Mathematics lesson plan contains the following elements
 Class details
 Lesson topic
 Instructional objectives
 Teaching resources
 Timing of the lesson
 Teachers activities (in each stage)
 Learners activities (in each stage)
Techniques to help elicit student
participation
• Pose questions which invite participation
• Flame the discussion so that it relates to
course content
• Use discussion regularly throughout the class
• Respond to post in a timely manner
• Participation in discussion should be rewarded
• Praise a good response, particularly if it’s one
you did not anticipate
Instructional Objectives
 Aims are general statements of intentions to be
achieved in the future
 Goals, like aims provide a sense of direction,
these are bit more specific than aims and can
be related more easily to some aspects of the
general aims
 Objectives are specific behaviors that must be
demonstrated by the learners upon completion
of the teaching/learning experience
