Fuzzy Logic for Water Demand Optimization

The document presents a study on optimizing water demand in Pune using a fuzzy rule-based approach. It highlights the current water scarcity in India, with only a small percentage of freshwater available, and discusses the methodology for determining water demand for various purposes. The results indicate critical and acceptable storage levels for different months, concluding that the optimization approach effectively forecasts monthly water demand for drinking, irrigation, and industrial sectors.

INTRODUCTION

WATER:- INDIAN SCENARIO

Although our earth is called the Blue Planet as
70% of the earth is covered by water yet only
2.5% of the world water is fresh ,while 97.5% is
saline being oceans . Of the small percentage of
freshwater ,only 0.3% of this freshwater is
avliable from rivers lakes and reservoirs 30%
from the groundwater while the rest is stored in
distant glaciers ice sheets mountainous areas
places that we can hardly access this is the
scenario of global water distribution when no
intervention is anticipated.
WATER :- INDIAN PRESENT
SCENARIO

According to the provisional data provided by

census 2011 population in india amountsto 1.21
billion with around 30% of them living in cities.
The latest projections suggest that 40% of the
indians will have moved into the cities by 2023
urban population willrise from 360 millions to 375
millions by 2023 india can achieve four fold
growth in its per capita income, currently 70% of
the GDP is generated in the cities which will only
grow in the coming years.
INTRODUCTION TO FUZZY LOGIC

FUZZY LOGIC is an Apporach to

computing based on degree of
truth rather than the usual “true
or false”(1 or 0 ) This is based on
Boolean logic which is the base

METHODOLOGY

PREFACE
To determine water demand of punecity
for drinking irrigation & industrial purpose
a number of problems are water demand
parameter were determined For
monitoring water demand various
analytical methods are used depending
upon purpose of study data available
information requried
FLOW CHART
RESULT & DISCUSSION
After necessary Defuzzification
the results obtained are tabulated
in table the rules were designed
in such manner that the output
obtained was realistic .with
reference to demand the reservoir
storage is estimated &
distribution policy obtained in
accordance with future population

remarks
SR NO STORAGE OBTAINED REMARKS

1 February to May Critictal storage

2 June & July Acceptable storage

3 August to November Excellent Storage

4 December & January Acceptable Storage

CONCLUSION
A Rule-base apporach for optimization
provides a simplest apporach to forecast
the water demand. The optimization
obtained will define the water demand
monthly for Drinking irrigation &
Industrial.
The minimum water demand for
drinking sector is 1.18*10*9
The minimum water demand for
irrigation sector is 0.25*10*9
The minimum water demand for
industrial sector is 0.29*10*9.
