THE EFFECTS
OF
EARTHQUAKES
AND VOLCANIC
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, pupils should be
able to:

Answer the following with YES or

2. Are you afraid when there is an
earthquake?
3. Do you know what to do when there is
an earthquake?
4. Do you shout when you are
experiencing an earthquake?
5. Do you know where to go when there is
an earthquake?
QUESTIONS
What are the layers of the earth?
Which layer is the thinnest?
Which layer is the thickest?
Which layer is made up of molten materials?
Which layer is between the crust and the core?
ACTIVITY 2. SIMULATING AN
EARTHQUAKE
MaterialShoebox, string, soil, stones of different sizes enough to fill
s: half of the shoebox and small toys.
Make a small whole at 1 side of the box.
Tie the string around a one stone.
Arrange the stone in the shoebox.
Cover the stones with soil up to the tip of shoebox.
Make the soil on the top compact by pressing it.
Set some small toys on the top of the soil.
Pull the string suddenly (not to strong). Observe the soil and the toys.
Give the string four strong and sudden tugs. Observe What happen to the
soil and toys.
QUESTIONS
What happen to soil and toys on the first pull?
What happen to the soil and toys when you gave
four strong and sudden tugs to string?
If you compare your activity with real
earthquake, how do earthquake occurs?
Earthquakes occur when energy stored in the
Earth's crust is suddenly released, typically due to
movement along faults or fractures in the Earth's
surface. This sudden release of energy causes
seismic waves that shake the ground.
HOW WILL YOU DESCRIBE
TECTONIC EARTHQAUKE AND
VOLCANIC EARTQUAKE?
When two tectonic
plates move suddenly
against each other, an
earthquake occurs. this
kind of earthquake is
known as Tectonic
Earthquake.
A volcanic earthquake
occurs in areas that are
associated with
volcanic activities, such
as in Mt. Mayon in
Albay, Mt. Taal in
Batangas, and Mt.
Pinatubo in Zambales.
What is difference between Tectonic Earthquake and Volcanic
Earthquake

Assignment:
The Pacific Ocean is freezing and Superman needs to
retrieve magma from the Earth's core to warm it. He
can dig at a speed of 500 kilometers per second, and
he's starting 8 kilometers above the upper mantle. How
long it will take him to reach the core and return.
THANK YOU!
I hope you learn
something new today!
