BW Terminology - InfoObject
The fundamental data element in the business Warehouse. They are the
basic information carriers in the BW.
> Key Figures – InfoObjects with numeric values, e.g., count,
quantity, amount
> Characteristics – Descriptors of the Key Figures used for slicing
and dicing.
> Text Master Data
> Hierarchies
> Attributes
> Display – View only
> Navigational – Can use for selection
> Time Characteristics – Time periods, e.g., day, week, month
> Units – Units of measure, e.g., kilograms, pounds
BW Terminology - InfoProvider
> Objects that can be used for reporting in BW
> They include the following:
> With data
> InfoCube
> ODS Object
> Master Data
> With no data (virtual)
> MultiCube – Unites data from more than one InfoProvider
> Remote InfoCube – Accesses data from an external system
> InfoSet - Connects flat tables by logical joins
BW Terminology
ODS (Operational Data Store)
> A collection of document level data from one or more InfoSources
> Organized in a flat table format
> Update rules can be applied to resolve business rules or perform other
transformations and conversions
InfoCube
> Data structured for slice and dice reporting in a group of relational tables known as
a “star schema”
> Usually the data is summarized to make reporting more useful and efficient
> Three types
> Basic – Physically stored in BW
> MultiCube – Virtual InfoCube that references other InfoProviders
> Remote – Virtual InfoCube that accesses data on another system (R/3)
