The Cartesian Coordinate
Plane is formed by the
intersection of a horizontal
number line(x-axis) and a
vertical number line(y-axis).
The number lines intersect at
the origin and separate the
coordinate plane into four
regions called quadrants.
Ordered Pair
X- coordinate is called Abscissa
Y-coordinate is called Ordinate
An ordered pair represent a unique point
or location in the plane. It is denoted
using the capital letters of the alphabet.
•A Read as Point A
B(3, 5) Read as point B
with x-coordinate positive 3 and
y-coordinate positive 5
For example, the pair (2, 3) denotes the
position relative to the origin as shown:
Another example, the coordinate (-4, 3)

The Cartesian Coordinate Plane is formed by the intersection
