outcomes. This research focuses on the
correlation between parent involvement and the
academic performance of high school learners at
Bay-ang Magpag-ong National High School. Given
the increasing emphasis on holistic education,
understanding the role of parents in shaping
academic outcomes is critical. This study aims to
provide valuable insights that can help
educators, policymakers, and parents foster more
effective partnerships that enhance student
performance.
As students at Bay-ang Magpag-ong National High
School, we experience various types of parental
involvement that positively influence our
academic achievements. Understanding this
correlation can help inform strategies for
fostering a supportive home environment that
enhances student performance.
educational processes and experiences.
According to Epstein (2018), parental
involvement encompasses a variety of activities,
including but not limited to attending school
events, assisting with homework,
communicating with teachers, and participating
in decision-making processes related to school
governance. This multi-faceted involvement
plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive
learning environment, which can significantly
impact students' academic performance.
engaged parents tend to exhibit higher academic
achievement, better attendance, and improved
behavior (Hill & Tyson, 2009). Conversely, lack of
parental involvement has been associated with lower
academic performance, increased dropout rates, and
a decline in motivation among learners. This issue is
particularly serious in the context of Bay-ang
Magpag-ong National High School, where many
students may face external challenges that hinder
their academic progress. Understanding the
dynamics of parental involvement in this setting can
help address these challenges and enhance overall
educational outcomes.
Magpag-ong National High School. This involves
identifying the specific ways in which parental
involvement influences students' academic
success and understanding the types of
involvement that are most beneficial. By
analyzing the relationship between parental
engagement and students' academic metrics,
the study aims to provide actionable insights
that can enhance collaboration between parents
and educators, ultimately fostering a supportive
environment that promotes high academic
achievement.
high school learners at Bay-ang Magpag-ong
National High School. Specifically, the study
aims to examine the various forms of parental
involvement that are prevalent in the school
community, including direct involvement in
educational activities and indirect support
through encouragement and communication.
Additionally, it seeks to assess the academic
performance of students through
standardized test scores, grades, and other
relevant metrics to determine the impact of
parental involvement.
economic factors. Finally, the study aims to develop
actionable recommendations for parents, educators,
and school administrators to enhance parental
involvement strategies, thereby improving student
academic performance. By addressing these objectives,
the research seeks to contribute to the existing body of
knowledge on educational practices and inform
interventions that can positively influence the academic
success of students at Bay-ang Magpag-ong National
High School. Ultimately, fostering strong partnerships
between parents and schools is essential for creating a
supportive educational environment that promotes
student achievement and well-being.
THEORETICAL
FRAMEWORK
among high school learners, three foundational theories
provide a comprehensive framework for understanding this
relationship: The first theory, Ecological Systems Theory
developed by Urie Bronfenbrenner, emphasizes that a child's
development is influenced by various interconnected
environments, with the family being a primary source of
support and guidance (Bronfenbrenner, 1979). This theory
underscores how parental involvement creates a nurturing
educational atmosphere that can enhance academic
outcomes. The second theory, Social Capital Theory
proposed by James Coleman, focuses on the value of social
networks and relationships in promoting educational
achievement, positing that parental engagement not only
supports individual learners but also strengthens community
ties that foster overall educational success (Coleman, 1988).
Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory posits that
children’s development is shaped by multiple,
interconnected environments, with the family as a
fundamental influence (Bronfenbrenner, 1979).

Parental involvement is a key component of the

microsystem that directly affects students'
educational experiences. Research indicates that
students whose parents actively engage in their
education—through homework support, participation
in school events, and open communication with
teachers—exhibit higher academic achievement (Hill
& Tyson, 2009).
This engagement fosters a supportive home
environment that enhances motivation, self-
esteem, and overall educational outcomes.
The theory suggests that parental
involvement creates a strong foundation for
students, allowing them to thrive
academically and socially.
Social Capital Theory complements this understanding by
emphasizing the importance of social networks in
educational achievement. Coleman (1988) asserts that social
capital serves as a crucial resource in facilitating academic
success.

Parental involvement helps build social capital, benefiting both

individual students and the broader educational community.
When parents engage with teachers and school staff, they
create networks that provide additional resources and
support for their children. Studies show that schools with
strong parental involvement often experience better student
performance, as this involvement fosters collaboration and
creates a positive educational atmosphere (Henderson &
Mapp, 2002).
The integration of Ecological Systems Theory and Social
Capital Theory provides a comprehensive framework for
investigating the correlation between parental
involvement and academic performance among high
school achievers. By understanding the multifaceted
influences of parental engagement through these
theories, the research can highlight how family
dynamics and social networks contribute to educational
success. This holistic approach will illuminate the
critical role parents play in shaping the academic
trajectories of high school learners, ultimately
informing strategies to enhance parental involvement
and improve educational outcomes.
CONCEPTUAL
FRAMEWORK
the relationship between parent involvement
and academic performance of high achievers
learners and the impact on their academic
achievements.

The independent variable, "Parent Involvement"

Parents of achievers usually convey high
expectations that can motivate and encourage
children to succeed, unrealistic or overly
demanding expectations can lead to stress,
anxiety and conflict.
including Grade Point Average (GPA), test
scores and overall performance. The academic
performance variable serve as a metric to
measure the success of high achievers learners
in their educational endeavors.

By exploring the relationship between these two

key variables, the conceptual framework aims
to know whether parent involvement in
academic performance of high achievers
learners positively or negatively affect them
and how parents can balance their expectations
with their child's interests and aspirations.
STATEMENT
OF THE
PROBLEM
highlighting the importance of parental engagement
in education, there is limited understanding of how
such involvement specifically impacts the academic
success of high-performing students in this context.
This study seeks to identify the extent to which
various dimensions of parental involvement such as
communication, support, and participation in school
activities affect the academic outcomes of these
students. By examining this relationship, the research
will provide insights that may inform strategies to
enhance parent engagement, ultimately contributing
to improved academic performance among learners in
the school.

SIGNIFICANCE
OF THE STUDY
1. Students: This study will help illuminate the
positive effects of parental involvement on
student achievement. By understanding how
their parents' engagement can impact their
academic success, students may feel more
motivated to communicate with their parents
about their educational needs and challenges.
Enhanced parental involvement can lead to
higher self-esteem, increased motivation, and
improved academic outcomes. Furthermore,
students may develop a greater appreciation
for their education when they see their parents
actively participating in their learning process.

students, purposefully selected from various grade levels,
specifically from 7th to 12th grade. While the study will
thoroughly examine the correlation between parental
involvement and academic performance, it will
intentionally delimit its scope by not extensively exploring
other factors that may influence academic achievement.
Variables such as family background, socioeconomic
status, teaching methods, and peer influences will not be
the focus of this research. Instead, the primary emphasis
will be on understanding how parental engagement in
education affects the academic performance of high school
students. Each of the respondents to this study is given
the same question to answer. And this study focuses on the
current high school students of the present school year,
2024-2025.
