GRINDING MACHINE
Grinding
• Grinding is the process of
removing metal by the
application of abrasives which
are bonded to form a rotating
wheel
• It consists of grinding stone(s)
(cutting tool), an electric motor.
Types:
1. bench-type utility grinding
machine,
2. floor mounted-utility grinding
machine,
3. buffing grinding machine etc
Grinding Machine
• The grinding machine is used for
• Roughing and finishing flat, cylindrical, and conical surfaces,
• Finishing internal cylinders or bores
• Forming and sharpening cutting tools.
• Snagging or removing rough projections from castings and stampings.
• cleaning, polishing, and buffing surfaces.
• Floor mounted-utility grinding
machine
OTHER TYPES OF GRINDING MACHINE
PRECAUTIONS WHEN GRINDING
• Inspect all wheels for cracks and defects before mounting.
• Check that grinders do not vibrate or operate roughly.
• Wear appropriate eye, ear and face protection. Use other personal protective
equipment or clothing, as required under the circumstances.
• Never operate grinding wheels at speeds in excess of the recommended speed.
• Always push the eye shield down when working.
