AD-IV : MAJOR DESIGN
SITE SELECTION
SITE LOCATION : Askarwadi, Pune Maharashtra
TRANSPORTATION: BUS STOP 1.6 KM.
NEAREST AIRPORT :Pune International Airport, Pune, Maharashtra 411032
DISTANCE : 25KM
Site has been chosen because it provides the flexibility and to design a plan on contour which basically
help the architect on how to compromise the building blocks and different strategies used to design them
The site has pleasent climate which may enhance the design and the site location effect. Contour are a
very unique way to change the property of design as well as different ways it can be used in campus to
highlight it's effect
CLIMATE RESPONSIVENESS
● One of the major way the planing of Campus has
been oriented as per the climate around southwest IDEAL BUILDING POSITION
so the building have been placed in a direction such
that the longer are facing the East and South portion
, the shorter are facing the south west portion. This
is best orientation as per standards and which will
reduce the harsh sunlight as well as allow the best
air circulation because air will flow through South
and West direction making the longer side cooler
and reducing mechanical ventilation.
SUN PATH AND BLOCK PLACEMENT
TOPOGRAPHY RESPONSIVENESS
● Topography is the only major limitations of this site but beside this it provides
certain unique features to the planning and strategy to enhance the in
development of site . Spaces are getting created below the building that can
be used with spaces which are not to be visually be seen but act as core of
building

SITE SECTIONS
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
● The energy efficiency effects of your building blocks
can be significant. Key factors include:-
● Thermal Mass: Concrete blocks provide excellent
thermal mass, absorbing and storing heat, which helps
moderate indoor temperatures and reduces reliance on
heating and cooling systems.
● - Insulation: Incorporating insulating materials within
the blocks enhances thermal regulation, leading to
lower energy consumption for heating and cooling.-
Building Morphology: The design and shape of the
building can optimize energy performance, potentially
reducing energy use by 10% to 30%.- Air Tightness:
Concrete blocks offer better air tightness compared to
traditional materials, minimizing drafts and energy
WATER EFFICIENCY
● Implementing drip irrigation systems that
deliver water directly to plant roots,
reducing waste.
● Install systems to capture and store
rainwater from rooftops for irrigation. (eg
toilet flushing and watering the plants ). WITHIN THE BUILDINGS
● Considering small-scale water treatment
facilities to process wastewater for reuse
on campus.
● Implementing systems that treat and reuse
greywater from sinks etc. for irrigation and
toilet flushing.
ALONG THE SLOPES
SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT
● General Waste: Non-recyclable trash, including food wrappers, plastic
packaging, and other disposable items.
● Recyclable Materials: Items such as paper, cardboard, glass, and certain
plastics that can be processed for reuse.
● Providing accessible compost bins for dry garbage and wet garbage.
● Hazardous Waste: Materials like chemicals from labs, batteries, and
fluorescent bulbs that require special handling.
THERMAL COMFORT FOR USER OCCUPANT
•Incorporate shading devices such as awnings, louvers, and blinds to block direct sunlight and reduce indoor temperatures.
•Heat Reduction: Plants and greenery naturally cool the environment by providing shade and through a process called evapotranspiration, where
water is transferred from the soil to the atmosphere from the leaves. This helps to lower surrounding temperatures, making the area more
comfortable.
•Improved Air Quality: Green spaces improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen. Better air quality contributes to overall
comfort and well-being.
•Urban Heat Island Effect Mitigation: In urban areas, surfaces like concrete and asphalt absorb and retain heat, causing the temperature to rise,
especially during hot weather. Green spaces help to mitigate this effect by cooling the air and reducing heat accumulation.
•Design buildings with optimal orientation to take advantage of natural sunlight and prevailing winds for passive heating and cooling.
•Plan room layouts to place less frequently used spaces on the hotter sides of the building.
ACOUSTIC COMFORT FOR USER OCCUPANT
AIR QUALITY
● Installing high-efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
systems designed to provide fresh air exchange.
● Incorporating indoor plants to improve air quality .
● Designing outdoor areas with vegetation to enhance air quality and provide a
natural setting for relaxation and study.
● Regular Cleaning Implement a thorough cleaning schedule that reduces dust
● Proving trees and landscaping to increase the good flow of air quality.
