INTRODUCTION TO
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial intelligence (AI) is when machines copy or improve
human thinking skills, like learning and reasoning.
AI is used in many areas. For example, a digital camera can
recognize people or objects in a photo using AI, and in the future,
AI could help manage electricity more efficiently by creating
smart electric grids
The idea of AI started in the 19th century, with Alan Turing’s “imitation
game” as a measure of machine intelligence, but real progress came
recently with better computing power and data
Humans learn from experiences because of advanced brainpower, while
machines can process huge amounts of data much faster, giving them an edge in
data analysis.
Artificial
Intelligence (AI):
• AI is the largest set (outermost
circle) and represents the
overall field that aims to make
machines capable of mimicking
human intelligence.
• It includes anything related to
enabling computers to perform
intelligent tasks, such as
problem-solving, reasoning, and
decision-making.
Machine Learning (ML):
ML is a subset of AI (the green circle inside AI). It
represents a specific approach within AI that focuses
on enabling machines to learn and improve
automatically through experience (data) rather than
being explicitly programmed for every task.
Deep Learning (DL):
DL is a subset of ML (the red circle inside ML). It is
a more specialized technique within ML that uses
artificial neural networks inspired by the structure and
functioning of the human brain. DL excels at
processing large datasets and handling complex
problems like image recognition or speech processing.
