STEEL WIRE
ROPE
MAINTENANCE
Types of Steel Wire Ropes - DRAKO / BURGG
DRAKO 300T –
• Insist of Nine Nos of Outer strands and Different Nos of steel wires in each strand.
• The permanent Elongation is less than or equal to 0.15% and the elastic elongation is less than or equal to 0.12%
DRAKO 250T –
• Insist of Eight Nos of outer Strands and 19 Nos of Steel ropes in each strand.
• The permanent Elongation is less than or equal to 0.15% and the elastic elongation is less than or equal to 0.12%
BURGG HRS –
• Insist of Nine Nos of outer strands.
• The permanent Elongation is less than or equal to 0.15% and the elastic elongation is less than or equal to 0.12%
The maximum Elongation allowable is 2% for the Steel Wire ropes
System Overview - Wire Ropes
Reeving Factors (KZU)
For KZU 1:1 –
The Ropes can be hoisted
from bottom most floor or
Lowered from Top most floor
during the replacement or
new installation.
For KZU 2:1 –
The Ropes are only allowed
to lowered from Top most
floor during replacement or
new Installation.
Steel Wire Rope - Maintenance
Maintenance Tasks of the Steel Wire Ropes
For the Governor Rope, the
rope condition needs to be
checked based on the Number
of trips.
< 600,000 trips/Year –
12 months periods
> 600,000 trips/Year –
6 months periods

Rope Stretch
4 – Compensation Blocks of CWT
5 – CWT Buffer
X – Measurement between Lowest compensation block and
CWT buffer.
Y – Height of one Compensation Block of CWT
HGP – Nominal Distance between lowest CWT compensation
Block and the CWT buffer (defined value for each product).
IF THE X + Y < HGP, remove one or more compensation blocks
of the CWT or shorten the main Ropes.

Rope
• The lubrication of wire Lubrication
ropes is required when the wire ropes are dry or when its
shows surface rust. Do not lubricate the wire ropes if one or more following
condition are met.
a) A finger wiped on rope shows faint smudge and feels slightly oily.
b) The gaps of the rope strands are filled with rouge (Red colored Rust powder).
c) The Rope Slip is >=0.1% of HQ.

Rope Replacement Criteria: Wire Brakes
1 – Wire Brakes
2 – Adjacent wire brakes in one strand
(Wire brake Accumulation)
3 – Counting Length 6*D or 30*D
4 – Rope Diameter
6*D – (6 * Diameter of the rope) mm
30*D – (30 * Dia of Rope) mm
Steel Wire Rope Maintenance – Wire Rope
Replacement Criteria : Rope Diameter
The maximum Allowed Reduction of the Rope
Diameter is 6% of the Nominal Rope Diameter.

Groove of the Traction Sheave
1 - Place the Ruler down on the sheave
rim and hold the ruler firm and tight.
2 – Measure the gaps between the tops
Of the ropes and the bottom of the ruler.
3 – Find the maximum distance and the
Minimum distance.
4 – Check the maximum difference of two
Measured values.
Amax – A min = A
5 – If the A>= 0.5mm, Replace or regrooves
the sheave
