What is Present Simple

& Present Continous ?

Present Simple is:


• To talk about things we do regularly
• Examples: I play basketball every Sunday / She eats
fruit everyday

Present Continous is:


• To talk about things we are doing now
• Examples: I’m playing hockey now / She’s eating an
apple now
How to use them ?
For the Present simple add s or es for he, she and it. For the
negative use don’t for I, you, we and they, and doesn’t for he
she andcartoons
I watch it. every day. I don’t watch the news. My dad makes
dinner every evening. He doesn’t make lunch.

For the Present simple question use do for I, you, we and they,
and does for he, she, and it.
What time do you wake up every morning? Does she walk to school
every day?
How to use them ?
For the Present continuous, use am, is or are and ing. For the
negative, use not.
I’m going to the park now. I’m not going to school. She’s studying
English now. She isn’t studying maths.

For the Present continuous question change the order of am,


is, or are and the person.
Are you doing your homework now? What is he doing right now?
Positive Negative Question

Write the verbs in the present simple or present continuous:

f. We don’t watch TV on Sundays. (Not watch)

Exercise (2) :
I like sport. I do judo on Fridays and I play volleyball
every weekend. Right now I’m not doing sport. I’m
watching a match on TV! My brother doesn’t like sport.
Every weekend he stays at home and plays computer
games. Right now he’s sleeping!
