CHASING SHADOWS :
The Art Of Light Rays
By : K.M Fawaz & Vinisha
INTRODUCTION
Visible rays, also known as visible light, are a
part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is
detectable by the human eye. This range of
wavelengths allows us to perceive the world in
color, making it an essential part of our daily
experiences.
THE ELECTROMAGNETIC SPECTRUM
• The electromagnetic spectrum includes various
types of radiation, ranging from gamma rays with
very short wavelengths to radio waves with much
longer wavelengths. Visible light falls in between,
with wavelengths approximately between 400 and
700 nanometers (nm). Within this range, different
wavelengths correspond to different colors, from
violet (around 400 nm) to red (around 700 nm).
PROPERTIES OF VISIBLE
LIGHT:
• REFLECTION: When visible light strikes a surface, it can be reflected,
allowing us to see objects
• REFRACTION: When light passes through different mediums, like air to
water, it bends. This bending is responsible for phenomena such as
rainbows.
• DISPERSION: White light can be separated into its constituent colors
through dispersion, which occurs when light passes through a prism.
APPLICATIONS OF VISIBLE LIGHT:
• Visible light is crucial in various technologies, such as:-
• OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS: Devices like microscopes and telescopes use visible
light to magnify objects and explore details that are invisible to the naked eye.
• COMMUNICATION: Fiber optics rely on the transmission of light to carry
information over long distances with minimal loss.
• PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING: Cameras capture visible light to create
images, allowing us to document and study the world around us.
CONCLUSION
• Understanding visible light and its properties
not only deepens our knowledge of physics
but also helps us appreciate the many ways it
influences our lives. From the colors we see
to the technologies we use, visible rays play a
vital role in shaping our perception of the
world.
