About ESS
• ESS Watumishi (Employee Self-Service Watumishi) is a system
within the Watumishi Portal that enables government
employees in Tanzania to manage and access their own HR-
related information.
 ESS Watumishi is designed to provide public servants with
direct access to personal data, employment records, payroll
information, and leave applications.
• A worker solves his/her persnal issues without needing to go
through HR personnel.
HR
• HR stands for Human Resources.
 In an organizational context, HR refers to the department or function
responsible for managing the people within an organization. The
department handles various tasks related to employee recruitment,
management, development, and support, ensuring that employees are
effectively contributing to the organization’s goals.

• Purpose of ESS: An ESS system allows employees to manage their


personal information and HR-related tasks independently, reducing the
administrative workload on HR departments.
