Introduction

 The fire-protection equipment is intended for detection, warning and

extinguishing of fire in protected compartments

 It ensure protection of all fire-dangerous compartments

of the fuselage
• Left TB3-117BM engine compartment

• Right TB3-117BM engine compartment

• Main gear box and service fuel tank compartments
• AИ-9B АРU compartment; KO-50 kerosene heater
compartment
 The stationary fire extinguishing system
consists of two bottles
 The helicopter cargo compartment has two
portable fire extinguishers
The helicopter has three sets of
equipment with fourteen groups of fire
detectors, arranged as follows:
 Four groups in the compartment of the main gear box and service
fuel tank;
 Three groups per each of the compartments of the port-side and star-
board engines TB3-117BM
 Two groups per each compartment of AИ-9B АРU and KO-50 heater.

Emergency
 (1) Indications
 (a) lllumination of red warning annunciator on the pilots' overhead panel center
subpanel (on fire protection system control panel) indicating the area of fire: L ENG FIRE
 (b) Illumination of red master warning light, located on the left instrument panel.
 (c) The РИ-б5 voice warning system generates voice warning: "Fire in ... L (R)
engine, main gear box, combust heater compartment".
 (c) Appearance of smoke, flame or burning smell in flight compartment.
 When fire indications appear, locate the fire area with the aid of the fire warning
annunciator, voice warning of РИ-65 voice warning system or visually.
 (2) In case the fire occurs in left or right engine compartments the red master
warning light, located on the left instrument panel, and red L ENG FIRE (П0ЖАР ЛЕВ. ДВ.)
or R ENG FIRE (П0ЖАР ПРАВ. ДВ.) annunciators come on. Simultaneously, the main
discharge (1-st shot) fire extinguishers discharge automatically fire extinguishant into the
affected engine compartment, which is indicated by illumination of the amber МАIN
DISCH (1 ОЧЕРЕДЬ) annunciator of the respective compartment.
 (3) Crew procedures
 (a) After the L ENG FIRE (П0ЖАР ЛЕВ. ДВ.) or R ENG FIRE (ПОЖАР ПР. ДВ.)
annunciator become illuminated on the fire protection system control panel the Captain
should proceed as follows:
 1) Shut down the engine whose compartment is on fire by the HP fuel shutoff
valve.
 2) Give an order to the Flight Engineer to close the fuel fire shutoff valve of the
left (or right) engine.
 (b) If fire persists after discharge of the main discharge fire
extinguisher and the red master warning light on the left instrument
panel continues illuminating after being tested by depression,
activate manually the alternate discharge (2-nd shot) fire
extinguisher to supply extinguishant into the affected engine
compartment, for this depress the MANUAL CONTROL ALTN DISCH
(РУЧНОЕ ВКЛЮЧЕНИЕ 2 ОЧЕРЕДИ) button.
Warning: Never start the engine in whose compartment fire was
suppressed.
ВКЛЮЧEНИЕ 2 ОЧЕРEДЬ) button located under the
annunciator of a
respective compartment.
 (c) If MGB compartment or the APU compartment are on fire the master warning
light, located on left instrument panel, comes on and the APU GEAR FIRE (ПОЖАР РЕДУК.
АИ-9) red annunciator on the fire protection system control panel comes on.
 The main discharge fire extinguisher is activated simultaneously, this is indicated by
illumination of the MAIN DISCH (1 ОЧЕРЕДЬ) amber annunciator.
 If fire persists after discharge of the main discharge fire extinguisher proceed as
instructed in para. (b).
 (d) If fire occurs in K0-50 combustion heater compartment , the COMBUST HTR
FIRE (ПОЖАР KO-50) red annunciator comes on simultaneously with the red master light,
located on the left instrument panel, and the main discharge fire extinguisher is activated
automatically.
 If fire persists after discharge of the main discharge fire extinguisher proceed as
instructed in para. (b).
 (e) If crew members detect fire in one of the protected compartments on
indications, but the automatic fire extinguishing system failes to operate, depress one of
the buttons marked MANUAL CONTROL MAIN DISCH (РУЧНОЕ ВКЛЮЧЕНИЕ 1 ОЧЕРЕДЬ)
and located below the L ENG FIRE (ПОЖАР ЛEВ. ДВ.), R ENG FIRE (ПОЖАР ПР. ДВИГ.),
COMBUST HTR FIRE (ПОЖАР KO-50), APU GEAR FIRE (ПОЖАР РЕДУК. АИ-9) annunciators
(depending on compartment where fire occurred).
 The main discharge fire extinguisher should operate and the MAIN DISCH (1 ОЧЕРЕДЬ)
amber annunciator of a respective compartment should come on. Further on, in case of
necessity to activate the alternate discharge fire extinguisher depress the MANUAL
CONTROL ALTN DISCН (РУЧНОE
 (f) After suppression of fire in one of the compartments by means of the
main (automatic) fire extinquishant dirscharge, disable the red master light by
pressing it. The repeated suppression of fire, occurred in other protected
compartment, is performed by manual activation of alternate discharge fire
extinguisher of II shot (since the main discharge (I shot) fire distinguisher has
been activated automatically.. This done, the Captain, or, upon his order, the
Flight Engineer, should activate manually the alternate discharge fire
extinguisher by depression of the MANUAL CONTROL, ALTN DISCH (РУЧНОЕ
ВКЛЮЧЕНИЕ 2 ОЧЕРЕДЬ) button located below the respective compartment
annunciator.
 (g) If fire occurs in the cargo or flight compartment extinguish the fire by
means of the portable airborne fire extinguisher.
 If the electrical wiring is on fire, de-energize the circuit in which fire is detected
(if it is impossible to locate fire area in circuit, de-energize the helicopter
completely).
 Warning: 1. Abort the mission after suppression of fire in any of the
compartments and proceed to landing.
 2. If fire persists after depletion of all the fire extinguishers, the captain should
take a decision to land or abandon helicopter (depending on the actual
situation.)
