About Clock
We measure time in seconds, minutes, hours,
days, weeks, months and years with clocks and
calendars. A day has 24 hours. The smallest one
is the hour hand and the hand bigger than the
hour hand is the minute hand. The second hand
moves relatively quicker than the other two
hands. The hour hand on a clock represents the
hour. On an analog clock, you look in the
direction the hands are pointing to read the
time. We use A.M. to tell the time running from
midnight to noon and P.M. for the time running
from noon to midnight. We do not write A.M. or
P.M. 12 o’clock at noon is written as 12 noon
and 12 o’clock at midnight is written as 12
midnight.
About Hour
The shortest hand or the little hand
displays the current hour, the longest
or big hand displays the current
minute, and the thinnest hand displays
the current second. In a day, there are
24 hours, and since the clock only has
numbers till 12, the hour hand goes
around the clock 2 times. Once, from
midnight to noon and then noon to
midnight.
About Minute
There are three hands on the
clock: the hour hand, the
minute hand, and the second
hand. The shortest hand of
the clock denotes the hour,
the middle hand denotes the
minute, and the longest hand
denotes the second. Minutes
can be calculated by
multiplying the number it
points to by five.
About Seconds
The Second hand shows the
seconds on an Analog clock. It
is the smallest measure of time.
The needle of the second hand
is very long and thin. There are
60 seconds in a minute, 3600
seconds in a hour, 86400
seconds in a day. When the
second hand rotates once, it
makes a minute.
Importance of Clock
What time is it when your alarm goes off in the morning? How
about when you’re running late for work and need to check if
there’s still time to catch a bus or train? What do you do? You
look at the clock to find out the time.
