INTRODUCTION
The process of attaching parts by means of a
cement –GPT 4
It is the process by which the restoration is cemented to
the tooth using a suitable luting agent

IDEAL REQUIREMENTS:
Have a long working time
Adhere well
Provide a good seal
Non toxic to pulp
Adequate strength
Be compressible into thin layers
Low viscosity and low solubility

POST CEMENTATION INSTRUCTION
The patient is asked to exercise all oral
functions andawareness should be created
regarding the initial discomfort
Sudden impact forces should be avoided in
the restored area,e.g. biting on a nut or
metallic object
Maintenance :
Oral hygiene procedures with special attention to use
of floss, inter dental brushes in the concerned area
De sensitizing tooth paste or mouth wash can be
used
Regular recall for review
The patient is advised to report immediately if there is
pain
C EMENTATION FAILURE IN FP
DCAUSES
Inadequate retainer
Short crowns
Over tapered
Preparation Insufficient rigidity
in casting Poor cementation
technique Wrong Choice of
materials Improper mixing
Contaminated materials Delay
in cementation
Cementation failure in fpd
PREVENTION AND MANAGEMENT
Crown lengthening,remake bridge
Re -cement with correct choice, mixing of
material
Remake bridge
R EMOVING A FAILED FPD
Using a crown remover (Back action or spring
activated)
Using a straight chisel
Using a brass ligature wire
Using a screw thread
using a Richwil crown remover
using a haemostat
Using a ultrasonic scaler tip
By cutting the retainer with a
bur
