I. INTRODUCTION
PROJECT URGENCY
Trend of life expectancy at birth in Vietnam from 1960
to 2020
Source: The World Bank
The average life expectancy in Vietnam has increased in recent
years
PROJECT URGENCY
The leading causes of death in Vietnam for the years 1990 and
2017
Source: IHME
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents the most important cause of death
DEFINITION
Connect emergency
services
A medical monitoring and alert watch ensures immediate
access to emergency services or caregivers at the press
of a button, enhancing safety and reducing response
time during critical situations.
Monitor health
These devices continuously track signs such as heart
rate, providing real-time alerts for irregularities or
potential health risks to ensure proactive care and
monitoring.
Provide alert
Specialized features support individuals with congenital
heart disease, offering advanced monitoring and early
detection to address specific medical needs effectively.

circuit.
SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM & ASSEMBLY PROCESS
• MAX30102 was connected to the Arduino using
the I2C protocol (SDA, SCL) and resistors
• The Piezo Buzzer was connected to a digital
pin on the Arduino
• The Arduino was powered via a USB
connection
PHASE 2: WORKING PRINCIPLE
• The MAX30102 sensor uses two LEDs (red
and infrared) to emit light through the
skin and blood vessels.
• The light passes through the skin and is
partially absorbed by the hemoglobin in
the blood. The remaining light is reflected
back to the skin surface.
A. LIGHT EMISSION PHASE
PHASE 2: WORKING PRINCIPLE
• A photodetector (a type of photodiode) in
the MAX30102 sensor detects the
reflected light.
• The intensity of the reflected light
depends on the blood flow in the blood
vessels, which varies with each heartbeat.
B. LIGHT RECEPTION PHASE
PHASE 2: WORKING PRINCIPLE
• The light received by the photodetector is
converted into an analog electrical signal.
• This analog signal is sent to the ADC
(Analog-to-Digital Converter) in the Arduino
to be converted into a digital signal.
C. SIGNAL CONVERSION PHASE
○ Read heart rate data from the
MAX30102 sensor.
Programmed logic to detect abnormal
Phase 3: readings
○ Compare heart rate with
programming & predefined thresholds (60-100
bpm).
Integrated the MAX30102 library to

data
codes
The code was written and tested
using Arduino IDE
○ Activate the Piezo Buzzer if the
thresholds are exceeded.
Trigger the buzzer
PHASE 4: TESTIMONIALS
CORE FUNCTION
Monitors heart rate and emits an
audible alarm via the buzzer if
abnormal readings are detected.

V. CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
• The Safety Watch project successfully created an
affordable, user-friendly heart rate monitoring
prototype with real-time alerts, tailored for elderly and
non-tech-savvy users.
• The Safety Watch addresses Vietnam's healthcare
challenges by offering a simple, affordable alternative
to complex and costly health monitoring devices
