 Ambulances are always in pursuit of reaching to patients or carrying them to hospitals with the
least minimum time.

 Whenever a accident takes place, in the life–death situation each second counts for an
ambulance and there is constantly only a question arising: “ Will the Ambulance reach on time?”

 As ambulances set out each day and night to serve the patients or victims and get them to
nearest medical support, GPS tracking systems can assist them with its live tracking and other
multiple features, and save many more lives.

Problem Statement :

 Longer TAT (Turnaround time) for ambulances resulting in loss of

golden hour.

 No live tracking and mobile clinical solutions with audio or video

capability to track patient health through the journey

 Overburdened Trauma Specialists.

As on the previous slide we elaborated about the
problem statement of the project , we now look at some
solutions our project can provide:

 Assign the nearest Ambulance - when the

hospital gets a call for emergency ambulance
service, the system manager can assign an
ambulance which is nearest to the location of
emergency. The time for ambulances to reach the
patient can thus be minimized.

 Send Real-time Data to Hospital Authorities -

GPS tracking system, when installed on ambulances,
gives its live location And the speed at which it is
travelling, to the admin or manager from the hospital.

 Curtail Unnecessary Expenses - GPS tracking

system can help drivers in assessing shortest route
with its Trip History feature, and thus saving the
fleet's fuel expenses.
 Maintain Recommended Temperature for Drugs or
Medicines - The GPS tracking systems have temperature
sensors on the devices installed on ambulances that alert the
admin through notifications, SMS's for any temperature
variation. Thus, any adverse circumstances can be avoided.

 SOS and Alerts - The GPS tracking system has an SOS button
which can be triggered by the driver in case of any emergency
situations that alerts the EMTs or authorities.
For implementing this Idea cum Project , we need to know two
important aspects:
 Hardware  Software
requirements: requirements:
 GPS Modem  Keil Uvision 3
 Microcontroller(8051)  Programming Language
 Microcontroller(AT89S52) – Embedded C language.
 LCD Display
 GSM Modem
 MAX232
 Keypad
Hardware Requirements:
1. GPS Modem - GPS modem is connected with the required satellites which then
calculates coordinates of location. This data is further transferred to the
Microcontroller from the GPS modem.

2. Microcontroller(8051) - Microcontroller(8015) communicates with the Liquid

crystal display. It controls the functions of embedded system and thus
communicates with input devices and output devices.

3. MicroChip(AT89S52) – This is a powerful microcontroller with low power and high

performance CMOS 8-bit microcontroller with 8k bytes of in-system programmable
flash memory.

4. LCD Display - Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are
commonly used to display data such as longitude and
latitude on devices.

5. GSM Modem - GSM Modem is used to send SMS to the LCD Display
user and allows the user to send SMS all over the world via
GSM network. It’s main feature is establishing and
maintaining the communication link between the device
and the network.

6. MAX232 - MAX232 IC is widely used for serial

communication among Microcontrollers & PC. It is
required since the communication level of 8051 and
GSM modem is different.
GSM Modem
7. Keypad – Users can send emergency messages using a MAX232
keypad
Keypad:ID3844
Software Requirements:
1. Keil Uvision 3 - Keil Software contains C compilers, macro assemblers, real-time
kernels, debuggers, simulators, integrated environments and evaluation boards for
the 8051, 251, ARM and XC16x/C16x/ST10 microcontroller families.

2. Programming Language - Programming languages act as a system of

communication between the computer and computer user that can be used to
develop programs
Impacts/Outcomes of the Project:
1. Route Optimization - GPS systems help identify the quickest and most efficient
routes to reach patients within time, avoiding traffic congestion, road closures, or
other delays.

2. Efficient Resource Allocation - GPS allows dispatch centers to track the location
of all ambulances in real time, enabling them to deploy the nearest available unit to
an emergency.

3. Pre-arrival Notification - By sharing real-time location and patient details, GPS-

equipped ambulances can alert hospitals to prepare for incoming patients. This
helps medical teams set up necessary equipment and staff in advance, ensuring
faster treatment upon arrival.
4. Security - GPS tracking can deter ambulance theft or
misuse, as the location of the vehicle can be traced
immediately if needed.

5. Reduced Mortality and Morbidity - Early arrival at

the scene means that patients receive timely
treatment, which can significantly reduce mortality
and long-term health complications.

6. More Accurate Estimated Arrival Times - GPS-

equipped systems can provide more accurate
estimated arrival times (ETAs) to patients or their
families, reducing anxiety and improving the overall
patient experience.
7. Maintenance Efficiency - GPS data can also help track the use of each vehicle,
enabling better maintenance scheduling and reducing repair costs by
ensuring that ambulances are serviced based on usage patterns.

8. Predictive Analysis - With historical GPS data, ambulance services can predict
high-demand areas, times, and routes, allowing better planning and resource
allocation to meet emergency needs.

9. Access to Isolated Areas - GPS technology can help ambulances navigate

unfamiliar or hard-to- reach areas, improving their ability to respond in remote or
rural locations where traditional methods might be slower or less efficient.

another life. The incident was reported from Nayagarh. The deceased, 30-year-old Saraswati
Nayak belonged to Kalasakhaman Nuagaon village under Dasapalla police limits in Nayagarh
district. On Wednesday morning she was admitted at Daspalla community health centre after
she complained of pain in her abdomen and high fever. When her condition deteriorated, she
was shifted to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) for better treatment. Saraswati's
husband Santosh called an ambulance to take her wife to the Nayagarh DHH, but it allegedly
came late. She reached the hospital where she breathed her last. Following her death her
relatives requested the hospital authorities to provide a hearse to take the deceased back to
her village to perform the last rites. "We requested the officers to help us in carrying the body
back home, but nobody paid heed to our repeated pleas. When nobody
came to our help, we carried the body on our shoulders and kept it in front of the district
collector's office in protest against the apathy of the hospital authorities," said Jayanti Nayak,
a relative of the deceased. Santosh alleged his wife died because of medical negligence and
delay in arrival of the ambulance. After getting information regarding the incident, Nayagarh
Town police station IIC Narayan Barik and Nayagarh tehsildar Pratap Beura reached the spot
