Test
 Intelligence (Or IQ) Test.
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5) of the American
Psychiatric Association (2013)
• Learning Disabilities can only be diagnosed after
formal education starts.
Common Achievement Tests Used To
Diagnose A Learning Disability

 Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement (WJ)

 Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT) These tests focus

on reading,
 Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT)
writing, and math.
 Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement

• The Multi Factored Assessment Tool (MFAT) is intended for use

of trained Grade 1 teacher in identifying learners with special
educational needs.
• Every learning impairment is unique. A diagnosis can be extremely
significant and useful. However, some people might believe that they do
not require a diagnosis. Different ages can result in a diagnosis of a
learning disability.

• Learning disabilities cannot be cured, but they can be mitigated with early
intervention. People with learning disabilities can learn coping
mechanisms to manage their impairments. The likelihood of success in
school and later in life increases when help is sought out earlier.

• The ability of the child to learn is enhanced by early diagnosis, which also
helps to prevent the emergence of behavioral issues and low self-esteem
in the child, both of which further impede their capacity to learn.
Praise effort over performance. Children with
learning difficulties may not always achieve
the best grades, but if they've put in a lot of
effort, it deserves recognition.

Put things in perspective. Share your own

experience. Keep them motivated.
