Adaptive Delta Modulation Algorithm
1 Old Signal vs New Signal
During encoding, the current signal is compared to the last signal,
and the difference is quantized and output as the bitstream.
2 Adaptation Level
The algorithm learns from the difference between the predicted
signal and the actual signal by adapting the step size to optimize
the process.
3 Limitations of Step Size
The step size must be chosen carefully, as too large a value could
overload the system, while too small a value could result in a loss
of resolution.
Advantages and Limitations of
Adaptive Delta Modulation
Advantages Limitations
Simple, efficient, and effective scheme Not as accurate as pulse code
for one-dimensional signal digitization modulation. Adaptive delta modulation
with fewer bits required. It is also requires a bit rate 2-3 times higher than
relatively easy to implement in PCM to achieve equivalent accuracy but
hardware. requires significantly less computational
power, memory, and processing
compared to PCM.

Comparison with Other Modulation
Techniques
1 Pulse Width Modulation
Delta modulation is more efficient than pulse width modulation since the latter
requires parallel processing because each part of the input audio signal
requires a separate quantization
.
2 Pulse Code Modulation
Delta modulation allows for faster processing with less computational power,
memory and processing, less wise dynamic range and fewer bits to encode the
signal than Pulse Code Modulation (PCM).
3 Frequency Modulation
Adaptive delta modulation is more efficient and more intuitive than frequency
modulation because it gets the signal changes from the difference of the
actual and the predicted values rather than the changes in frequency.
Conclusion and Summary
1 Efficient and Accurate
Adaptive delta modulation is a simple and efficient technique for digitizing
and transmitting low-resolution analog signals with high accuracy.
2 Effective in Various Fields
Adaptive delta modulation is widely used in many fields, including
telecommunications, speech recognition, and medical data storage and
transfer.
3 Comparison with Other Techniques
Adaptive delta modulation has its own advantages and limitations
compared to other modulation techniques such as PCM, PWM, and FM.
