Thought provoking questions for discussion

What things are moved (exchanged) across the surfaces of organisms? Where are the gas, nitrogenous waste, and nutrient exchange surfaces in each organism? Gas exchange requires a moist permeable surface how do organisms balance this requirement with water loss and how does where they live affect this? What prevents stagnation at the exchange surface? Are there ways to increase the concentration of the material being exchanged either inside or outside the animal? 11

(You plot all individual data points each student submits a points report, this is not a team assignment)

Graph #1- Surface Area as a function of volume Graph #2 - Log10 (Surface Area) as a function of Log10 (volume). Slope, standard error, 95% confidence calculations and conclusion. Graph #3 - Log10 (Surface Area:Volume) as a function of Log10 (volume). Slope, standard error, 95% confidence calculations and conclusions.
