Six projects fund breakdown meant to improve Laguna Lake water quality:
P79.5 million for the Laguna de Bay quality management restoration water park, a bioremediation technology facility P21 million to improve a road leading to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Teresa, Rizal P100 million for the construction of a green, climate-sensitive, and energy-efficient LLDA headquarters

P50 million to upgrade the agency s laboratory equipment P4.5 million for the procurement of surveillance and monitoring motorboats P15 million to back a Project Feasibility Development Team to enhance the agency s mandate

Construction of the LLDA Headquarters


TARGET DATE Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) will begin constructing in Quezon City a landmark climate-smart structure for its headquarters and laboratories this year. BUDGET P100 million approved by Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Funded by local government units

AIM/BENEFIT to help make the agency's operations more efficient and to showcase environment-friendly building options that other offices can adapt. will help raise public awareness about environment-friendly planning, design and construction alternatives that can be applied to make buildings perform better through means like using more natural lighting and ventilation as well as storing and recycling rainwater

Experts already highlighted urgency for environment-friendly buildings, noting such structures are among top emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs). They noted such irregularities include the unusually heavy rainfall during storm "Ondoy" in 2009, causing the polluted Laguna de Bay to overflow and submerge surrounding communities for weeks.

What is Greenhouse Gases?


GHGs drive climate change which bring forth disaster-causing weather irregularities, they warned. Greenhouse gases are atmospheric gases that trap infrared radiation emitted from the earth, lower atmosphere, or clouds or aerosols and, as a result, cause positive radiative forcing (which means they enhance global warming).

COUNTERPART FUNDING P70 million to P80 million as the project will include construction of laboratories LLDA will construct its edifice on a 3,000- square meter plot in National Ecology Center (NEC) along Quezon City's East Avenue. Philippine Green Building Council parameters for green structures will follow. BUDGET P79.5 million AIM/BENEFIT to mitigate and control the lake s degradation process The facilities will employ bioremediation technology which will introduce microorganisms in the water to remove pollutants. This will help accelerate natural ecological processes to improve the lake s water quality.
