RAPID ESTIMATION FORM
By Using Rapid Estimation form, We will evaluate the Idea and the
solution obtained by applying the selected Idea.

 Rapid Estimation Form Consists of 5 parts

 Part-1: The Name of the Concept
 Part-2: The Benefit (V = B/P)
 Part-3: The Results
 Part-4: The Challenges
 Part-5: The Evaluation
Benefits of ideas (Low Value)

Survival : The state or fact of continuing to live or exist idea typically

inspite of difficult circumstances.
Security : Security is freedom from, or resilience against, potential harm
caused by other factors.
Comfort : The pleasant and satisfying feeling of being physically or
mentally free from pain and suffering from the solution(idea).
Sensory pleasure : A feeling of happiness, satisfaction,
or enjoyment with sensation.
Benefits of ideas (High Value)

• Economy
• Convenience
• Entertainment
• Affiliation
• Esteem
• Productivity
• Profit
Designing a Robot
Survival: Does
it work for long
time ? Emotional
satisfactions:
• Economy
Security : Does it protect
from potential harms? • Convenience
• Entertainment
• Affiliation
Comfort: Does it give • Esteem
satisfaction feeling
physically or mentally? • Productivity
• Profit

Sensory pleasure : Does

it give happiness,
satisfaction,
and enjoyment?
RAPID Part-1: The Name of the Concept:
A very short name. It can say what the concept
ESTIMATIO does or it can be a brand name. Examples:
“The Robo Chef” or “The Cooking partner”.
N FORM Concept = Idea = Solution.
Part-2: The Benefit (V=B/P)
• The low-value benefits are physical benefits such as
survival, security, comfort, and sensory pleasure.
• High-value benefits are emotional satisfactions. They
include economy, convenience, entertainment,
RAPID affiliation, esteem, productivity, and profit.
• Benefits are NOT jobs to be done. They are ways that
ESTIMATIO people feel their lives are better.
• Not everyone will benefit from a solution. Only
N FORM certain groups of people will benefit from certain
solutions.
• Examples: Only men will benefit from beard care
products. Only cricketers will benefit from cricket
bats.
RAPID Part-3: The Results
ESTIMATIO We are designing something to meet a
N FORM Design Thinking challenge. The
challenge includes a measurable result
in raw numbers or a percentage, for
example ₹20 lakhs or 20%. Enter a
precise number (not a range) that you
think the idea will achieve.
RAPID
Part-4: The Challenges:
ESTIMATIO If we decide to work on this solution,
N FORM what will be difficult for us to do?
List specific obstacles that might come
up during research, prototyping,
testing, designing, manufacturing, and
selling it.
RAPID ESTIMATION FORM
Part-5: The Evaluation
Based on Parts 1-4 and your judgment, what should we do with this solution?

Option A: This solution will PROBABLY meet our Design Thinking challenge
completely or significantly). We should prototype and test this solution.

Option B: This solution will POSSIBLY meet our Design Thinking challenge. We
should prototype and test other solutions first, not this one.

Option C: This solution will PROBABLY NOT meet our Design Thinking challenge.
We should put this solution aside and not prototype and test it.
Organization A wants to eliminate the overhead of shelling out extra money and investing time for transferring
knowledge to its new employees.

The problem statement at hand is “Knowledge transfer adds to the cost of the company”. Let’s think of ways to
eliminate or at least, reduce the cost to the company.

 Elimination of knowledge transfer program.

 Having a single instructor for knowledge transfer program in a classroom session.

 Preparing a document for knowledge transfer program.

 Making it mandatory for employees to search for knowledge resources online.

 Hiring only those employees who are experienced enough and who don’t need knowledge transfer.
Rapid Estimation Form

• Making it mandatory for employees to search • Having a single instructor for knowledge transfer program

for knowledge resources online. in a classroom session

 Part-1: Online training  Part-1: Tutor Training

 Part-2: Partial Cost cutting for the company  Part-2: Employee’s and company growth towards technology

 Part-3: Should invest on getting bulk classes from  Part-3: Should invest a bulk amount for direct and qualified tutors

 Part-4: To find common time for the employees

online tutor

 Part-5: Good
 Part-4: Monitoring becomes hectic

 Part-5: Partial solution

DISCUSSION.
• THEN, compare and discuss all of your estimates and
rank the ideas First-best, second-best, third best,
fourth best.
