Writing an Elevator Pitch
1. Research:
o Identify the person you will be making your pitch to
o Identify what you want to ask them for in your pitch
2. Drafting:
o Write down a draft of your pitch highlighting all the
important points
3. Editing and polishing:
o Get rid of unnecessary details and narrow it down to
roughly 100-150 words
o Include action words and phrases related to your field
Elevator Pitch: Example
Situation
▪ Sonia is a MBA student who has recently graduated from Excel College. She
goes to a networking event where she meets many senior executives. One of
them is Ashish Gupta, general manager, marketing, SunTech Pvt Ltd.
▪ She is keen to speak with him about any opportunity, if available, to work in
his team. She has prepared an elevator pitch that she tailors to meet the
needs of this opportunity
Elevator Pitch: Example
Hello Mr Gupta, I’m Sonia, a recent MBA graduate from Excel College. I would
like to request any opportunity to work in your organization. I am passionate
about marketing. As a member of my college Marketing Club, I organized and
participated in several inter-college competitions. I've also taken extra online
courses to learn digital marketing. I believe SunTech would be the perfect fit for
me. I've been following your marketing campaigns for a while now and I
especially loved the one on the launch of the Watermelon Laptop. I would love to
learn how to create such innovative and engaging campaigns. I would be
grateful if you could share any potential opportunities with me.

▪ You are a final-year MBA student speaking to a manager at a
well-known company. Write an elevator pitch to introduce
yourself and request for the relevant information

▪ You have 10 minutes to write your pitch
ACTIVITY 2: Let’s Practice
▪ Divide the class into pairs.
▪ Practice self introduction that you wrote
with each other
▪ 10 minutes are given to practice
▪ Now, each pair will come in front and give
their introduction to the class
