LEARNING OBJECTIVES
In this lesson, students are expected to:
a. Explain the different structures for facilitating
learner-centered teaching.
b. Summarize the features of different structures for
facilitating learner-centered teaching; and
c. Identify effective structures in facilitating-learner
centered teaching
2. ALTERNATIVE
LEARNING SYSTEM (ALS)
It is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that
provides a practical option to the existing formal
instruction. When one does not have or cannot access
formal education in schools, ALS is an alternate or
substitute. ALS includes both the non-formal and
informal sources of knowledge and skills.
NON – FORMAL
EDUCATION
(NFE)

Non-formal education is purely a correspondence
course. It provides classes in summer institutes, postal
tuition, television programs, radio programs, teaching
machines, programmed instruction, open universities,
distance education, etc. Thus, non-formal education
fulfills different objectives like imparting knowledge,
developing different skills, and promoting values among
the learners.
INFORMAL
EDUCATION

(InfEd)
Informal education is also called incidental education. It
takes place both consciously and unconsciously. It is not
systematic, pre-planned and is not confined to a place
and time. It is casual and gained through daily
experience, work, and activity. Informal education is
modification of behavior that comes about necessarily
and spontaneously without any conscious and
deliberate effort for it.

program
Mobile Teachers are "specialized" teachers who live
among the people in remote barangays of the country
conduct the BLP for illiterate out-of-school youth and
adults who are willing to learn basic literacy skills,
Accreditation and Equivalency (a continuing education)
for those who left formal school system or have no
access to schools
3. Alternative Delivery Modes
(ADM)
ADM refers to the non-traditional education program
recognized by the Department of Education (DepEd)
which applies. It is a flexible learning philosophy and a
curricular delivery program that includes non-formal
and informal sources of knowledge and skills. It makes
use of modularized instructional materials, but which
are articulated with the formal Basic Education
curriculum
Modified In-School Off-School
Approach (MIMOSA)
Originally designed to address issue on congestion.
Currently designed to address issue of congestion plus,
helps pupils who are enrolled but habitual/ seasonal
absentees, living in conflict/disaster areas, chronically
ill, or engaged in earning a living to augment family
income
Classes under MISOSA are divided into two groups:
• the in-school group
• the off-school group
Enhanced Instructional Management by
Parents, Community and Teachers
(e-IMPACT) Learning System
This learning system is a technology-enhanced
alternative delivery mode developed by the SEAMEO
Regional Center for Educational Innovation and
Technology (INNOTECH) to address issues in
accessibility and quality of education in schools usually
handled by a few teachers teaching multigrade classes.
EVALUATION
Write YES, if the statement is acceptable and correct and NO, if the statement
is erroneous.
MISOSA emphasizes on self-governing, self-paced, flexible and adaptive study to cater the
1. needs of learners who are unable to start or complete secondary education due to
unavoidable circumstances.
The Alternative Delivery Modes (ADMs) is primordial solution to address the problem on
2. classroom congestion and other situations and circumstances, which prevent children from
going to and staying in school.
Formal Education requires a definite starting age in schooling and is continued over the
3.
years until it is completed.
Non-formal education is unsystematic, casual and pre-planned. Learning is gained through
4.
day-to-day experience, work and activity.
Alternative Learning System addresses the needs of marginalized groups and provides more
5. educational opportunities for Filipino citizens of different learning needs and interests,
potentials, ethnicity, socioeconomic origin and status.
