General classification of Capybara
The capybara[a] or greater capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris) is a giant cavy rodent native to South
America. It is the largest living rodent[2] and a member of the genus Hydrochoerus. The only other extant
member is the lesser capybara (Hydrochoerus isthmius). Its close relatives include guinea pigs and rock cavies,
and it is more distantly related to the agouti, the chinchilla, and the nutria. The capybara inhabits savannas and
dense forests, and lives near bodies of water. It is a highly social species and can be found in groups as large as
100 individuals, but usually live in groups of 10–20 individuals. The capybara is hunted for its meat and hide and
also for grease from its thick fatty skin.[3] It is not considered a threatened species.
Description
The capybara is the largest rodent species and its existence is still present, the capybara is rarely the one
who knows clearly. To get to know these animals, let’s together take care of its features like having two
incisors that will always grow continuously, hairy mixture of brown and red, short haired with oil, eyes and a
small nose, the hind legs have 3 fingers and shorter than the front legs, the number of front legs is 4 in the
form of membrane, shy, quiet, quiet in the plains, very agile when swimming in the waters, kariba
communicate with the like through whistling, barking and also whining, live in groups, one the group consists
of 2 to 30 tails, is very fond of wallowing in mud, happy with tropical and humid regions like southern
America, Buenos Aires / Argentina, eastern Andes, Venezuela and northern regions of Colombia.
Decscription
The habitat habitat is all areas that have a lot of water without time, this animal is very dependent on water. The
habitat is swamps, meadows, bushes, rain forest, wetlands and also puddles. If the habitat does not meet the
water requirements, feeding them and their groups will move to areas with large water supplies. In the water, they
will swim agile and can achieve a long time, it aims to avoid the threat of water predators
The capyara is very fond of herbs, fruits and also grains, as for the types of grass that became delicious food in
winter is panicum iaxum, hymenachne amplexicaulis and leersiahexandra. As for the dry season, the type of grass
that became food is the type Axonopus spp, Paratheria, Reimarchloa and Sporobolus indicus. Search for food
sources, they do in the afternoon (late in the evening) in pastures and stagnant areas.
