Introduction
The Internet, sometimes called simply
"the Net" is a worldwide system of
computer networks. A network of
networks in which users at any one
computer can, if they have permission,
get information from any other
computer (and sometimes talk directly
to users at other computers).

IP Address
In order to identify themselves on a network,
every computer has an IP address. An IP
address is in the form of “[Link]” for
example (this IP address corresponds to the
google server “[Link]”).

Generally, we distinguish networks on their geographical span. It ranges from
small networks, as small as the distance between a cell phone and its Bluetooth
headphone, to the largest network on earth which is the internet itself.

A personal area network (PAN) interconnects

Computer network types
A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a
computer network that connects computers within
a metropolitan area, which could be a single large
city, multiple cities and towns, or any given large
area with multiple buildings. A MAN is larger than
a local area network (LAN) but smaller than a
wide area network (WAN). MANs do not have to
be in urban areas; the term "metropolitan" implies
the size of the network, not the demographics of
the area that it serves.

A wide area network (WAN) has a large capacity,
connecting many computers over a large area, and are
inherently scalable. A WAN is often created by joining
several LANs together, such as when a business that
has offices in different countries links the office LANs
together. Because WANs are often geographically
spread over large areas and links between computers
are over long distances.
