INTRODUCTION
 Acid violence, also called an acid attack is a form of
violent assault defined as the act of throwing acid or a
similarly corrosive substance onto the body of another
“with the intention to disfigure, maim, torture or kill.”
CAUSES OF ACID VIOLENCE

 Revenge against a woman who rejects a


proposal of marriage or a sexual advance.
 Conflicts related to dowry or domestic
violence
 Attacks against minorities
 Conflicts regarding inheritance and other
property issues
CONSEQUENCES OF ACID
VIOLENCE
PHYSICAL EFFECTS
 Permanent blindness, scarring of the face and body
 Destroys skin, clothing, and in high concentrations,
it can melt bone.
 Victims are tricked into drinking acid and suffer
from internal damage
 The skull is partly destroyed/

deformed and hair lost.


PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS
 Mentally disturbed and victims to reduce
their stress through weeping and shouting
on others.
 Anxiety, depression, eternal trauma, social
Isolation and suicide plan .
 Fear, threatening and frustration are also
seen.
SOCIAL EFFECTS
 isolated from their society
 ignored by their family members and relatives

 not able to find suitable work/job

 dependent on either their spouse or family for


everyday activities

 The Criminal Law Amendment Act 2013
amendment also introduced section 326B in the
IPC, which makes voluntarily throwing or
attempting to throw acid punishable with a
minimum five-year sentence that may extend to
seven years and a fine. Section 357B of the IPC
provides for compensation, which is payable by
the state government under Section 357-A, in
addition to the payment of fine to the victim
under section 326A.
