Introduction
The School Management Committee (SMC) is empowered to monitor school
functioning, ensure effective use of grants, oversee the implementation of RTE
provisions, maintain accountability transparency in school functioning, track student
and teacher attendance ensure mid-day meals, fair distribution of Govt aids to
students and raise awareness among the community. Every affiliated school must
have an SMC. The term of SMC in three years and it shall meet at least twice in the
academic year. The composition of the SMC shall consist of not more than 21
members. At least 50% of the members must be women The Principal / Head master
will act as Ex-Officio Chairperson of SMC Vice Chairperson shall be from amongst
the parent members
The SMC ensures that

2. The welfare of teachers and other employees are taken care of

4. The SMC shall have financial powers beyond those delegated to the
Principal/Headmaster.
5. It can audit the academics activities without Interfering with the freedom of the

6. The fees and other charges collected in the school shall be approved by he SMC.
7. The budget presented by the Principal shall be reviewed by the SMC.

3. Resource Mobilization and Management: SMCs play a crucial role in resource mobilization for the
school. They work towards securing adequate financial resources, infrastructure, and learning materials to support
the educational needs of students. SMCs may engage in fundraising activities, seek partnerships with local
organizations, and advocate for sufficient government funding. They also oversee the effective utilization and
management of available resources.
4. Monitoring and Evaluation: SMCs monitor and evaluate the overall performance of the school. They
review academic progress, student attendance, teaching quality, and the implementation of policies and programs.
SMCs may conduct regular school visits, interact with students and teachers, and analyze data to assess the school's
effectiveness. Based on the findings, they provide feedback and recommendations to improve the quality of
education
5. Community Engagement and Communication: SMCs serve as a link between the school and the
community. They promote community engagement and encourage active involvement of parents and
community members in school activities. SMCs facilitate effective communication by disseminating
information about school events, policies, and achievements. They also gather feedback from the
community and relay it to the school administrator for consideration.
6. Advocacy for Quality Education: SMCs advocate for quality education within the school and at
the policy level. They raise awareness about the importance of education, child rights, and the specific
needs of the school and its students. SMCs may engage in advocacy campaigns, participate in education-
related forums, and collaborate with other stakeholders to influence policies that support improved
educational outcomes.
7. Conflict Resolution and Grievance Handling: SMCs play a role in addressing conflicts and
grievances within the school community. They provide a platform for stakeholders to express their
concerns and seek resolutions. SMCs may mediate disputes, facilitate dialogue, and ensure that fair and

8. Oversight and Accountability: SMCs ensure transparency and accountability in school
management. They monitor the implementation of policies, adherence to regulations, and the efficient
utilization of resources. SMCs hold the school administration accountable for delivering quality education
