STATISTICS
Statistics is the study of the collection, analysis,
interpretation, presentation, and organization of data.
Also, we can say that statistics is a branch of applied
mathematics.
The basics of statistics include the measure of central
tendency and the measure of dispersion.
The central tendencies are mean, median and mode and
dispersions comprise variance and standard deviation.
MEAN
Mean is the numerical average of a set of numbers.
It is calcualated by adding all the values in a set and
then dividing by the number of values.
Sum of all the values in a set
MEAN =
Total number of values in a set
MEDIAN
The Median is the middle value.
It is calculated by ordering the values and then
choosing the value in the middle .
For example:
• Weight of the children : 25,26,30,32,22
• Order : 22,25,26,30,32
• Median : 26
MEDIAN(Even number of values)
To calculate Median of the even number of data, order
the data , find the middle values and then calculate
themean or average between the two middle values.
For example :
Scores of the test: 26,30,25,22,24,29
Order : 22,24,25,26,29,30
Median : (25+26)÷2 = 51÷2 = 25.5
MODE
Mode is the value that occurs frequently in a given set
of data.
It is calculated just by looking for the most frequently
repeated data.
For example
Temperature in a week: 23,27,26,24,23,22,23
Mode : 23
