Personal Statement What they look for:


Admission officer wants to know more about you in person, so a personal statement gives an insight to what you have in store for them GET PERSONAL! This is the time to let them discover the part of you which cannot be found anywhere in your transcript.

What can you write in your PS?


Question-Specific Strategies Topics:a) Personal Growth b) Future Goals c) Childhood d) Hobbies and Interests

Things that should NOT be present in the statement


Anything that is related to the university for which the officers are well aware of
(e.g.. I applied to University of Cambridge because its one of the most prestigious )

Potentially repeated details


(e.g.. Achievements, past examination results which will appear in your transcripts / reference letter)

Necessary Requirements before writing down your PS on UCAS


Check your Essay! Submit it to a qualified English teacher. Take note of the Style and Tone of your essay: i) Sentence Variety ii) Word Choice iii) Verb Tense iv) Transition

Preparing for the Interview


Be sincere and polite College interviews are not the time for modesty and

monosyllabic answers. There might be something on your transcript that might need explanation, so be prepared. NOTE:MABECs provide mock interviews for Oxbridge applicants

What should I wear?


Not something that dress to kill!
Two groups as usual:a) Women: Nice slacks and a blouse/ simple dress, Shoes should be low to medium heels. b) Men: Nice pants with a shirt, tie and a jacket. Turtleneck and sweater is another possible combination! Strictly no JEANS and CAPS.

Your Body Language


Sit still and look directly at the interviewer. Do not tap your fingers on the table or the chair

arm. Do not tap your feet or swing your legs. Sit up straight in your chair with both feet on the floor. Breathing slowly and taking time to pause between your thoughts will help you stay calm.

Personal Pointers
Use common sense. Be wary of sensitive issues. Colloquial language is inappropriate. Speak positively without bragging. Listen carefully + answer fully Cheerful + friendly

Note:
You cannot really prepare much unless you have fully covered your A-level syllabus. Else, just try your best to answer a few questions.
