Community Health Service
Management
Refers to the concepts, knowledge and skills
derived from public health
Demography, Epidemiology and Biostatistics are
tools in measuring and analyzing community
health
Community
a group of people with common characteristics or
interests living together within a territory or
geographical boundary- place where people
under usual conditions are found
Health
The condition of their body and the extent to
which it is free from illness or merely absence of
a disease
“State of complete physical, mental and social
well being, not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity” ( WHO)
Community Health
part of paramedical and medical intervention/approach
which is concerned on the health of the whole population-
aims:
1. health promotion
2. disease prevention
3. management of factors affecting health
Service
Something that the public needs which is
provided in a planned and organized way by the
government or an official body
Management
Is the control and organizing of a business
or other organization
Primary Health Care
Essential health care made universally
accessible to individuals and families in
the community by means acceptable to
them through their full participation and at
a cost that the community and country can
afford
Considered a practical approach to
making health benefits within the reach of
all in a country of community. It addresses
the main health problems of the country
or community
it is an approach to health development
which is carried out through a set of
activities and whose ultimate aim is the
continuous improvement and maintenance
of the health status of the community.
Essential Elements of
Primary Health Care
a. Education concerning prevailing health problems and controlling
them
b. Promotion of food supply and proper nutrition;
c. The provision of safe water and basic sanitation;
d. Maternal and child health care including family planning;
e. Immunization against the major infectious diseases;
f. Prevention and control of locally endemic diseases;
g. Appropriate treatment of common diseases and injuries; and
h. Provisions of essential drugs
