The primary types of intentional injuries include bullying, stalking, extortion, kidnapping and abduction, acts of terror, suicide, sexual victimization, domestic violence, gang and youth violence, and illegal fraternity-related violence. Bullying involves aggressive behavior using physical strength or social power to harm others and can be further classified into verbal, social, physical, and cyber bullying . Stalking refers to repeated unwanted contact causing fear in the victim . Extortion is the use of force or threats to gain favors or money . Kidnapping and abduction involve the illegal taking or detention of a person without lawful authority . Acts of terror are intentionally violent acts meant to cause terror . Suicide is the voluntary act of taking one's own life, often linked to depression or substance abuse . Sexual victimization includes sexual harassment, abuse, and rape, involving unwanted sexual advances or forced sexual activity . Domestic violence refers to abuse within a domestic setting . Gang and youth violence involves illegal acts by gangs for territorial control or to prove loyalty . Illegal fraternity-related violence involves brutality by nonrecognized fraternities .

Domestic violence can manifest as physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, or economic control within a household setting . Interventions include providing shelters for victims, enacting and enforcing strict laws against domestic violence, and offering counseling services to both victims and perpetrators. Educating the public on recognizing early signs of abuse and fostering community support systems can also help prevent domestic violence .

Gang and youth violence can lead to increased crime rates and community instability, as gangs often engage in illegal activities like theft and violence to assert control over territories . This behavior can disrupt community cohesion, lower property values, and create environments of fear and insecurity. Additionally, the presence of gangs can strain local law enforcement and divert resources from other community needs . Young individuals involved may have their future opportunities limited, perpetuating cycles of poverty and crime .

Handling illegal fraternity-related violence involves legally dismantling nonrecognized fraternities engaging in violence and creating awareness about the dangers associated with joining such groups . Schools and universities should implement strict policies against hazing and illegal fraternity activities. Offering alternative positive social activities and promoting recognized fraternities that align with ethical standards can help divert students from violent groups .

Cyberbullying can lead to severe psychological effects such as anxiety, depression, and in extreme cases, suicidal thoughts due to its pervasive and often anonymous nature, which can make victims feel constantly threatened . To address cyberbullying, it is crucial to implement strict online policies and regulations, raise awareness about digital citizenship, and encourage open communication between victims and trusted adults or authorities. Providing support networks and counseling for victims can help mitigate its impact .

The distinction is significant because kidnapping involves taking or detaining a person against their will without lawful authority, while abduction focuses more on the unlawful interference, such as the taking of a child from parents, regardless of consent . Kidnapping can lead to charges of unlawful restraint and have severe legal penalties. Abduction might involve legal issues related to custodial rights. Both acts can cause emotional and psychological trauma to the victims and lead to severe legal consequences for the perpetrators .

Social bullying involves actions intended to damage someone’s reputation or social standing, such as spreading rumors or excluding someone from a group . Physical bullying involves direct harm or damage to a person or their belongings, including hitting, kicking, or taking possessions . Social bullying can lead to psychological effects like anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal due to the victim's damaged reputation. Physical bullying can cause physical injury and also lead to psychological distress .

Prevention measures include early diagnosis and treatment of underlying causes such as depression and substance abuse, which are major contributors to suicide and could lead to behaviors associated with sexual victimization . Increasing awareness, providing better education about consent and healthy relationships, and ensuring support systems are available can also help in prevention . Additionally, encouraging victims to seek help through available helplines can prevent escalation .

Depression is a major factor behind many suicides, as it leads individuals to feelings of hopelessness and despair, increasing the risk of them taking their own lives . Substance abuse, including alcohol and drugs, can exacerbate depressive symptoms, impair judgment, and lower inhibitions, making an individual more likely to act on suicidal impulses . The document suggests that early diagnosis and treatment of both depression and substance abuse can help prevent suicide by addressing these root causes .

To mitigate intentional injuries from acts of terror, it is essential to strengthen legal frameworks to address and prevent terrorism more effectively . Social strategies include enhancing community engagement by promoting inclusivity and understanding to reduce the alienation that might drive individuals toward extremist ideologies. Intelligence-gathering and community policing can help detect potential threats early . Educating the public about recognizing and reporting suspicious activities is also crucial .
